What am I supposed to say to this generation of young scientists? Undermining the future of American science is not a path to accountability — it’s a path to decline.

'At the institute I lead, almost all of the canceled grants were ones specifically awarded to support the training of young scientists. Each of these young scientists represents the future of American science: the next innovators, mentors, and developers of lifesaving treatments.'

Far-red chemigenetic kinase biosensors enable multiplexed and super-resolved imaging of signaling networks - Nature Biotechnology Far-red kinase biosensors are applied to image kinase signaling networks at super resolution.

Happy to see my Postdoc work out @natbiotech.nature.com. Using HaloTag and synthetic fluorophores instead of FPs enables us to shift the spectral properties of kinase activity reporters (KARs) to the far-red 🔬. Huge thanks to everyone involved @jinzhanglab.bsky.social!

Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants

the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever

they aren’t going into universities’ endowments

they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research

Your yearly reminder to acknowledge the core facilities you use and their staff scientists in your papers. These scientists are a crucial part of the scientific ecosystem and to continue to exist they need tangible credit for their work. Plus their associated expertise adds credibility to your work.

A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.

Two women dressed professionally standing in front of a banner celebrating 20 years of the Emory FIRST program

5 yrs ago I was at Emory to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the IRACDA teaching & research postdoc program. My teaching mentor was one of the first fellows and a student I mentored as a PD is now Assistant Professor. This program helped prepare us to be better teachers, researchers, & mentors 🧪 1/

I'm an Emory IRACDA alum and this is absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating. That program was amazing training in both research & teaching & I know I'm a better professor bc of it. PREP & IMSD programs are so important for training our next gen of scientists. Such a disastrous move for science 🧪

I am writing to let you know that due to changes in NIH/HHS priorities, the Maximizing Opportunity for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) program has been terminated.
Your institution can continue to draw funds on any active award for allowed costs that are within scope and consistent with the Grants Policy Statement. Further awards will not be made, and NIGMS will not permit no-cost extensions.

so sad for so many who have benefitted from this incredible program.

this is a tragedy for every scholar, but more importantly for academic science as a whole
