Thank you, Kimberly! I really enjoyed meeting you and hearing about your lab’s impressive work as well!
Two identical shirt designs but one is magenta and one is orange. It says biology is bigger than binaries and it has a clownfish and a bee and a lily
It's the LAST WEEKDAY that I'll post about the Bigger Than Binaries shirt! I'm sending the order to the printer first thing Monday.
SO! I humbly request that you buy a shirt and/or repost this so everybody sees them 😘

Classes are ending, but SCIENCE is still under ATTACK! Join us and #StandUpForScience to let our representatives and leaders know that we will not let the pipeline for STEM education and discovery be dismantled! All members of the community are welcome! #SummerFightForScience
'At the institute I lead, almost all of the canceled grants were ones specifically awarded to support the training of young scientists. Each of these young scientists represents the future of American science: the next innovators, mentors, and developers of lifesaving treatments.'
Happy to see my Postdoc work out @natbiotech.nature.com. Using HaloTag and synthetic fluorophores instead of FPs enables us to shift the spectral properties of kinase activity reporters (KARs) to the far-red 🔬. Huge thanks to everyone involved @jinzhanglab.bsky.social!

Ok so yeah, this has quickly become the #1 misunderstanding about the canceled grants
the grants are not “subsidies” or “entitlements” to Harvard or Princeton or whatever
they aren’t going into universities’ endowments
they are competitive contracts won by these universities to do research
We're looking for 1-2 enthusiastic early career chemists to join our Open Chemistry team at @hhmijanelia.bsky.social. Come help us create amazing dyes and share them with the world. Please share with the best recent/soon-to-be B.S. chemists you know! bit.ly/42w8C6N
Your yearly reminder to acknowledge the core facilities you use and their staff scientists in your papers. These scientists are a crucial part of the scientific ecosystem and to continue to exist they need tangible credit for their work. Plus their associated expertise adds credibility to your work.
I was invited to write a blog post for our Center for the Advancement of Teaching about belonging in large lectures. It came out today 😊 Shoutout to Neal Zondlo (who I don't think is here yet) for the friendship bracelet idea! #ChemSky #EduSky
A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.
On Wednesday we learned our grant (and those of countless other amazing programs) was terminated. 🧵 1/n
NEW: The Trump administration swiftly cancelled dozens of international student visas Friday at Stanford and University of California campuses, including UCLA, UC Berkeley and UC San Diego. Two women dressed professionally standing in front of a banner celebrating 20 years of the Emory FIRST program
5 yrs ago I was at Emory to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the IRACDA teaching & research postdoc program. My teaching mentor was one of the first fellows and a student I mentored as a PD is now Assistant Professor. This program helped prepare us to be better teachers, researchers, & mentors 🧪 1/
NIH MOSAIC program’s termination is a massive loss for the next generation of scientists, threatening the research workforce’s future and human health. We remain committed to supporting MOSAIC Scholars with critical resources for the remainder of the award and beyond. Full statement: buff.ly/TSMrvXq

Really important piece to share widely. Too many Americans don’t know how severe a threat this Administration poses to our scientific infrastructure, global leadership, and health security
The termination of the NIH MOSAIC program is a critical loss. As one of the 5 societies supporting MOSAIC scholars, ASCB remains dedicated to supporting early-career scientists & broadening the biomedical workforce. We'll continue our mentorship & development efforts through the end of the grant.
I'm an Emory IRACDA alum and this is absolutely heartbreaking and infuriating. That program was amazing training in both research & teaching & I know I'm a better professor bc of it. PREP & IMSD programs are so important for training our next gen of scientists. Such a disastrous move for science 🧪

BREAKING: We're suing the National Institutes of Health over their politically-motivated purge of research grants.
This is an unlawful attack on scientific progress that puts lives at risk.
I am writing to let you know that due to changes in NIH/HHS priorities, the Maximizing Opportunity for Scientific and Academic Independent Careers (MOSAIC) program has been terminated. Your institution can continue to draw funds on any active award for allowed costs that are within scope and consistent with the Grants Policy Statement. Further awards will not be made, and NIGMS will not permit no-cost extensions.
so sad for so many who have benefitted from this incredible program.
this is a tragedy for every scholar, but more importantly for academic science as a whole
Hello Bluesky! We’re finally moving from that other app! We’re QSS, and we host events to create community for LGBT professionals in STEM, as well as outreach events with orgs across San Diego!
I’d definitely be interested!
This is really cool! If I were local I’d 100% be going. And I wonder if we could get something like this going in San Diego… 👀
