Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

I collect physical hardware/games, and these are horrible takes.
I'm very pro emulation. For preservation, accessibility, etc. I've always supported it, and that hasn't always gone over well with other retro gamers.
But I don't care, they need to pull their heads out of their asses on this.
Whole-heartily agree with this take.
One hopes images like this, when paired with the knowledge that everything we burn ends up in that tiny slice of gasses, would help contextualize why we need to move away from energy sources we set on fire.
One hopes. Climate communicators should make some hay of this.

A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.
not trying to read news on my (or your) days off but i read it constantly and have no bandwidth to process this all… hence the life affirming gallows humor & music threads
People need to pay close attention to this OLC opinion on the Presidential Records Act.
As @joshgerstein.bsky.social points out, nothing less than our own history is at stake.

When churches host/support this kind of deranged political crap, it's time to end their tax-free status. Similarly, end taxpayer support of separate schools, private schools, and religious charter schools. They are hothouses of hate and division. #cdnpoli #abpoli

what next? what, are we gonna provide *roads* for the wealthy too? gonna have health inspectors keep contaminants out of their groceries? are we just gonna have gutters and sewer systems around rich people's homes?
I, for one, would enjoy a government which is not quite so repugnant.
finally got that video done
the thumbnail is honestly the most important part but there's some good info in there if you can stand it

from 1868 to 2025 there was little dispute about what the birthright clause meant and the idea that the past year has been some great scholarly debate is absurd. a handful of partisans and hacks have churned out junk so that the president can get what he wants. that’s it.
I'm a professional ski instructor as well as climate journalist.
Even as winters become warmer and shorter, the snowsports industry isn't taking a strong stand to protect our jobs.
The outdoor industry should form a huge lobby for climate action!

Fun fact, It is actually very, very similar to the one in Salt Lake City. Made by the same engineer if I remember correctly and both beautiful!
Fellow scientists, go into the light!
I think we need to have a conversation about the media’s willingness to lower its bar based on the most extreme shit a politician says, and how it results in the normalization of some pretty heinous stuff.
The reaction to Poilievre’s interview on Joe Rogan is an excellent example.
Let’s discuss:
the republican justices are as pickled in MAGA slop as any pardoned jan 6er
Now western car manufacturers are making what one former boss calls a “profound strategic mistake” as they pull back from electric vehicles (EVs) and refocus on the combustion engine just as oil prices are soaring again. www.theguardian.com/business/202...
Western carmakers are retreating from EVs just as oil hits $100 a barrel.
The parallels with Detroit in the 1980s are striking. They ignored fuel-efficient Japanese cars. Now they’re ignoring Chinese EVs.
BYD just unveiled 600-mile range and 250 miles of charge in 5 minutes.
This would be incredibly easy to foresee for everyone who managed to realize what fuel is and that renewable technologies do not require fuel to operate but y'know thinking isn't popular these days.

How do white nationalist groups in Canada recruit people to their cause?
A new report from the Institute for Strategic Dialogue shows the ways they’ve using otherwise healthy activities — male bonding, fitness, martial arts, time outdoors — as gateways to radicalization.
Here’s more:
The white nationalists are now calling into question the ethnic purity of *squints* the, uh, Germans, Ukrainians and Dutch
Yes,the emerging line is wily, ruthless Israel tricked poor, trusting, naive Donald Trump into a stupid, reckless war. GMAFB. Israel has absolutely pushed for this but ultimately it’s DONALD TRUMP who decided to take the US to war. He likes war! He likes blowing things up! He literally says it’s fun
Oh I don’t know Marc, the Bhagavad Gita is one of the oldest and most influential scriptures about the nature of self and duty in the history of civilization and it’s why you get to run around doing the “I am become death” quote
America is a great place to visit and most Americans are very nice, outgoing people. However, if you are considering visiting the US from a foreign country right now, you have rocks in your head.
The is the federal government telling news stations to provide favorable coverage of the war or their licenses will be pulled.
A truly extraordinary moment.
We aren't on the verge of a totalitarian takeover. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF IT.
Act like it.
