I empower my students with disabilities to be self-advocates for their success by first getting them to understand that it is okay to ask for help and that in doing so doesn’t make you any different or less than your peers. And I encourage class collaboration so students are eager to help each other
Scaffolding. I incorporate multiple learning styles in my lesson includes visual aids, videos, chunked notes, and most importantly collaboration. I pair students in groups on different levels to help each other and to enrich conversations like during turn and talks.
I teach 5th grade ELA & Social Studies, 1 example is that I allow my students to have sensory manipulatives. They often use slime, playdough, squishiws, and rubiks cubes to help with focus issues. I also break down task questions, provided modified work, and given double time for assignments.
When creating an inclusive environment for students with learning disabilities, a challenge I have faced is my pacing. It sometimes takes them a little with some concepts, tasks, and notes that can make the lesson a little longer. Opportunities I have encountered are multiple ways to answer things.
