Non-sterile culturing techniques work! What otherwise looks like a dense mat of diatoms masks numerous bull kelp sporophytes! We were ready to scrap this culture and start anew but kelp at resilient! Time to change culturing conditions to promote kelp development

I’d like to be added. I’m a graduate student studying the effects of density on kelp growth and reproduction. Additionally I work on restoring bull kelp populations in northern California leveraging aquaculture, SCUBA, and community science
