I don’t understand how it isn’t part of normal planning: if there’s a safety car in the first stint do we stay out or take the stop?

With the forced number of stops it has to have come up in a conversation. Which means they may have actually planned for this to happen.

This has to have been a scenario that you talk about during planning regardless of the order after coming out of T1.

That answer may be different for Oscar/Lando (split) but you definitely plan for it.
