So long, Taipei. I loved you! 🩷

After being rescued at sea, a boy is accused of 2 murders. This felt a bit like Making a Murderer in that the boy’s autistic and the police are kind of going off vibes and you get the sense they’re only seeing what they want to. Ultimately, you don’t find out definitively what happened.
We got a gift from Chewy Claus today 🥹

Alex Honnold attempts to become the first person to ever free solo Yosemite’s 3,000 foot El Capitan. There are some really stunning shots, and the feat itself is actually insane. I couldn’t look away for the last 20 minutes.

Starting the year strong! I initially went to college for journalism. That dream didn’t last beyond Journalism 101, but there’s still something magical about it to me. And as a [forever] New Yorker, I really enjoyed this glimpse into the inner workings of the magazine.
Proud to say I did, in fact, manage to watch at least 1 documentary per week this year! Here's a list of everything + updated ratings and notes: lowbuytime.substack.com/p/2025-docum...

After watching the Ruby Frankie doc earlier in the year, I had to watch this follow-up. There’s no new information, but it’s still interesting.
Thank you! They are courtesy of the great @natashaolivia.bsky.social ❤️
Despite my cats trying to give me a heart attack this week, they are still exceptionally cute.
Poe Poe was sick all weekend and I had to take her to the emergency vet this morning. When I got home, Stanley had chewed up the shower curtain and potentially eaten a magnet, so I had to go right back. Overall, everyone is fine, but today was just literally the WORST 🥺

I've watched this before, but I'm always astounded as to how good it is. Surviving an assassination attempt and then catching the people who did it and returning to Russia? It's wild.

An LDS mom gets wrapped up in some crazy cult and ends up being charged with multiple counts of murder. It’s fine and interesting enough, I just got a little lost amongst all the players. Which could be my own fault for half-paying attention.

A look at the repercussions of mass/school shootings in America. I cried in frustration once, and by the end, I was in a rage.

In 2014, flight MH370, with 239 people aboard, vanished from all radar. We still don't know what happened to it. This one takes a look at a few [conspiracy] theories as to what might've happened.

From the same people who did 20 Days in Mariupol (which I also gave 5⭐️), it's an incredible war documentary from the frontlines in Ukraine. It uses a lot of bodycam footage, so if you liked 20 Days or The Perfect Neighbor, you should definitely watch this one.

Not quite a 4, because I know I watched another documentary on this once that was better, but still worthy of a watch for anyone who’s a true crime fanatic. It’s only 3 episodes and feels like it moves pretty quick.

This took place in my hometown, so I'm biased in terms of being interested. But it takes a look at the influence of the internet and mental health in teens.

In South Africa, a well known doctor and influencer helps a convicted rapist and murderer escape from prison and they go on the run together. Interesting enough to watch a modern Bonnie and Clyde!
In case you were wondering how Poe and Stanley are getting along…
I thought the doc was totally fine! But others rave about it. Maybe you'd like it, maybe the book is still better. That's not at all helpful, I know 😂

Guess what? Nobody tells you what's wrong with Aunt Diane.

An average true crime doc set in the Pacific Northwest thta covers the crimes occurring along Highway 20 between the 70s and 90s. Not bad, not great!

I started this on a plane years ago and finally finished it. It's an interesting look at the Golden State Killer case and true crime author Michelle McNamara, who fought to catch him. Didn't fully hold my interest at times, but I did like it.

This one is disturbing and infuriating. I actually watched this back in 2020, but must've blocked it from memory. TW for child abuse.
Hi, it should be illegal to have a full conversation over speakerphone on public transit at 7:30AM. That is all.

This was a really interesting perspective — usually it’s the victims’ families, not the killer’s family. If you like true crime, I think this one would be a good watch.
Look at those EARS! Enough for both cats 😂
Everyone say hello to Stanley!

Told entirely through bodycam footage, this documentary covers a neighborhood dispute that ends in murder. It takes a hard look at fear, bias, prejudice, and Stand Your Ground laws, and I can't stop thinking about it. One of the best I've seen.
I haven't heard of this one! I'll need to investigate 👀
