I also feel like it’s the only stat screen series that kinda justifies the stat screens, since it has the neat progression of the protagonist being a monster and evolving throughout the books. It’s cool to see, and it inherently establishes the ecology of the fantasy world.

I was surprised when it ended suddenly, from my perspective, at under 20 volumes and despite its popularity. Knowing now that the ending was the first part of the series the author conceived, it makes a lot more sense why. I have to respect it.

98% of Isekai is slop, especially now, but I do believe that the “older” titles from this specific boom are legitimately good or have something going for them.
