As part of her proposed 2027 budget, @mayorbowser.dc.gov wants to make changes to the universal paid family leave program for private-sector workers in D.C. She initially said she wants a pause for medical and family leave claims for a year, and vaguely alluded to other changes.

We're not talking enough about the true nerdy problem of mid-decade redistricting, which is that we define legislative district boundaries based on 2020 Census blocks but all other geographies change over time. We can't assume that 2020 county = 2026 county, but some states do.

I'm fun at parties.

Feel like it's telling that you *don't* see people who have a lot of experience with T-MSIS data rushing to put out quick-and-dirty analyses (they know how quirky T-MSIS data can be)

Sloppy efforts to "expose" Medicaid "fraud" like this are going to expand the large target already on HCBS services

DC Water also acknowledged that in recent days they put out some of their own testing data on the level of bacteria and E. coli in the river but had their numbers wrong. They blame human error, and it was way off.

E. coli levels are about 100 times higher than DC Water initially reported.

You need to hire @timmeko.bsky.social as your next graphics leader, period.

Back when I was a baby data analyst wanting to make graphics & become a journalist Tim took me under his wing, taught me everything, advocated for me to work with his team. So many of us are journalists now because of Tim.

I had the privilege of working with the Post graphics team for a bit in 2024. Not only are they the absolute best at their craft, but more importantly, incredible people who were so welcoming even though I was just a temp.

Read the thread & hire these amazing gfx/data/dev journalists right away.
