The DOJ was created to increase the capacity for federal prosecutions during Reconstruction esp. those to be brought under the newly enacted KuKlux Klan Act.

Now the DOJ is being used to prosecute a storied civil rights organization whose central mission has been to expose & dismantle the Klan.

QAnon terrorist Marjorie Taylor Greene was more than okay with being a seditious voice for the orange felon up until he started attacking her and no longer supported her. She can spare me the rehab tour bullshit as I’ll never forgive that she helped create this chaos.

A reminder that several years ago Democrats introduced a bill that would’ve banned gerrymandering in all states nationwide and every single republican voted against it, so they don’t get to cry foul now.

So true. Inside a car you’re cut off from the outside, whereas on a bike you’re acutely aware of your surroundings by necessity.

A bad close pass resonates and lingers for the rest of your ride, sometimes even well beyond.

More Democrats should use their time in hearings like this.

Trump can't stand it when his underlings use their position in his orbit to self-promote (like Noem did), and spending government resources on vanity projects is the kind of corruption people easily understand.

HASSAN: Does the president know about your self-promoting videos using official HHS resources?

RFK Jr: I didn't know about a number of those videos. I just happened to not see them.

HASSAN: So you don't know how your own team is managing official resources?

Opinion | Measles Took My Daughter. This Is What I Want Everyone to Know.

This is one of the saddest pieces I’ve read in a long time; brace yourself, it’s devastating

I wish RFK Jr and his MAHA movement would read it (they won’t)

A couple of takes today appeared to misapprehend the Virginia and California district proposals as some response to Trump. In fact, they respond to escalating attacks on fair districts by Republicans since 2003 — when Tom DeLay engineered a mid-decade redistricting of Texas.

If not for Trump, what's the emoluments clause for? What's impeachment for? What's the 25th Amendment for? What's section 3 of the 14th Amendment for? What are checks and balances for?

The baddies are cherrypicking the Constitution the same way they do the bible: for their own benefit.

Remember, Democrats have repeatedly advanced measures to ban partisan gerrymandering and Republicans have voted against them time after time.

This is the game Republicans wanted to play. OK, then.

Gaslit Nation listeners organized postcard writing for Virginia in our Monday salons. This victory belongs to every volunteer who got out the vote. My 80 year old parents drove from my Mrs. Orwell book launch in NYC to early voting in Virgina. A five hour drive. That's how I knew we would win.

Inside Immune Amnesia Study reveals how measles infection reduces protection against other diseases

A chilling result of measles few highlight is immune system amnesia after infection.

The knowledge built up by a person’s immune system is suppressed, and potentially reset downwards, by measles.

(Not saying it’s not in your article; which I’ve not read yet.)

ā€œWhat I didn’t know was that measles can cause long-term complications. A child can seem fine while the virus slowly replicates in her brain… Because both Britain and the United States are confronting outbreaks, I am sharing my story. Parents should know just how dangerous this disease is.ā€

Alright, I’m home now so here’s the Norm update. Yesterday at 4pm, I got a text from a family I’ve been helping who had a loved one abducted a couple of days after RenĆ©e Good’s murder. This was the family that Norm Nation kept from being evicted (and you delivered). ICE had released their loved one.

This is the situation ICE is leaving detainees in.

The work is still going to bring people home.

MAHA's leaders claim they want to end sickness, but they intend to do it by ending chronically ill and disabled people's access to the care that keeps us alive.

The MAHA plan for ending chronic illness is simply ending chronically ill people.🧵

"Cleaning up the risk pool" is a euphemism for eugenicist depraved heart murder. When the Trump regime takes health insurance away from people who rely on it to pay for the medically necessary services that keep us alive, we die. RFK Jr knows that 🧵

RFK Jr. told the House E&C Committee today that the way to bring down healthcare costs is to "clean up the risk pool" — remove the people who cost too much. He said the $4.3 trillion we spend on chronic disease is the emergency. He said most of Minnesota's autism services funding was stolen. 🧵

"Send us money to help build a border wall" and then instead buying yourself 18 more rumpled polo shirts to wear simultaneously, that's donor fraud. "Send us money to help research and track extremists" and then spending that money on obtaining information about extremists groups is... not fraud.

This is about exposing the SPLC's informants in right-wing extremist orgs and driving them out so they can plot in secret. The bullshit criminal charges are just a bonus.

19 hours ago 117 52 3 1

The theory of the case -- that the SPLC defrauded donors by promising to "dismantle" hate groups while secretly paying informants inside said hate groups, a tactic that it has carried out for nearly half a century -- is completely absurd.

New AP poll

Trump’s job approval rating falls to 33%.

Huge warning sign for the GOP —> Trump’s approval on handling the economy has tanked to 30%, falling by 9 points since February before he launched the Iran war.

Infiltrating hate groups with informants is something that goes way back to the civil rights era and before. It's never been something only the government can do, especially when the government is more likely to be showing up for the white power happy hour every third Thursday at Chili's.

Can definitely criticize the merits, or if the scale reached the point where you're effectively subsidizing them well in excess of the value of the information. But "I'll pay you if you tell me what your little Klan club is up to" isn't illegal and I doubt SPLC donors would be that shocked by it.
