Revisited SPEED RACER (2008) in IMAX tonight... what a movie! A visual thrill ride that knows more about how to place, move, & frame images than anything since. Every shot, every wipe is filled with kinetic joy-- miles ahead of its time. What a confection, a complete treat! ποΈπππ©·
My wife worked on this show for years... so glad to see it being discussed.
The Glen Campbell story is so incredible-- one of the greatest guitar players, member of the Wrecking Crew who played on an unbelievable number of classic songs, subbed in the Beach Boys when Brian Wilson could no longer perform, his Jimmy Webb collabs are all-timers. See the doc I'LL BE ME! β€οΈπ
So... it's officially @recordstoreday.bsky.social Day 2, the day when you scour the internet for all the records that you couldn't find in person on Day 1! I got the rest of my list from my online favorite (I'll never tell) & get to support them too! Go get what you missed! #RSD26
Awesome list! Some overlap between us... A few more things to find online tomorrow, I hope. Top of my list is Sonic Youth's DIAMOND SEAS (which gets "John Oswald-ed"), the Prince Buster comp, Jackson C Frank, and MY SOUL IS LOST, which is a comp of R. Crumb's 78s
... which is DIAMOND SEAS by Sonic Youth. I love WASHING MACHINE & this song is an absolute favorite, so this record was top of my list but sold out instantly (the store had 2 copies I was told). I will be on my A game tomorrow to track it down... wish me luck!
Great #RSD26 all in all! π₯΅
I didn't get everything, but that's what the next day online sales are for. So, I'll be seeking
Zeni Geva & Albini
Camper Van Beethoven
Coltrane: Complete France Concerts
Jackson C Frank
The Gits
Misfits
Prince Buster
Swamp Dogg
MY SOUL IS LOST (R Crumb 78s comp)
tomorrow. My #1 want, too...
UNDERTALE REMIXES- My sons collect video game music on vinyl for games they love. So, they got this record as a gift and they are super happy with it! #RSD26
LIVE BOOTS by XTC. Look, XTC stopped playing live in 1982. 44 years ago. LIFE BEGINS AT THE HOP, RESPECTABLE STREET, BALL & CHAIN, MAKING PLANS FOR NIGEL, GENERALS & MAJORS, THIS IS POP & more. Supervised by Andy Partridge. Recorded in NJ! I mean... #RSD26
NITE FLIGHTS by The Walker Brothers- Scott Walker album, into the bag, onto the turntable, essential. Enough said. #RSD26
THE SEEKER by McCoy Tyner- For me, the GOAT of jazz pianists. I was lucky to see him once with a great trio, but the idea of hearing him with Bobby Hutcherson on vibraphone is too good to pass up. #RSD26
CBS DEMOS by Talking Heads- I am not a "demos" guy but this very early era of the band (1975) is something I am really interested in hearing. It also got what seems to be a good pressing at 45 rpm at Sterling Sound, so hopeful it sounds great. #RSD26
FU:EL SINGLES BOX by Sugar- I am a completist and have been buying Sugar albums since the early 1990s, so had to grab this for *reasons* #Completist #RSD26
SALAD DAYS Soundtrack- I love this documentary about the peak days of Dischord Records. So many great DC bands on here. I lived there in the years after this period and these kids totally shaped a punk ethos for years to come. Love it. #RSD26
WE LOST THE SKYLINE by Porcupine Tree. I don't own any of their albums, but I like them when I hear them. However, a live "in store" from a prog metal band that got a half-speed master at Abbey Road? Too curious to pass up. #RSD26
BODY OF SONG by Bob Mould- This is one of my favorite Bob Mould solo albums, totally slept on. CIRCLES, UNDERNEATH DAYS, BEST THING-- so many bangers. Never had this on vinyl before. Do now! #RSD26
KING CRIMSON LIVE IN 1974- A live album of King Crimson from 1974, you say? Includes NO PUSSYFOOTING (!), LARK'S TONGUE IN ASPIC (PART II) & STARLESS you say? Must have. #RSD26
BOOGIE ON YOUR HEAD by Flat Duo Jets. Love them, miss Dexter Romweber, who was a force of nature in this band. I was excited to find this one, longtime fan. #RSD26
Hey, it's @recordstoreday.bsky.social! I visited The Rock Shop in Atlantic County NJ to find what I could from my long list of records I wanted! A great list this year, I found about half of what I was hoping for, so I took a couple of my "Maybe" records, too. Let's review, shall we? #RSD26
Can I get Balagov to NJ for the Montclair Film Festival? Stay Tuned! π
He does have the power...
Up next... well, better not to say yet. But I. CANNOT. WAIT as it is total Tomcore. π€€
...& her desire to give shape to her own life through immediate, decisive action. They are not ready for herβ she is a force of nature who simply wills her life into being. Reading Fosse gets better and better, he is one of my favorite authors, and this comic and moving story is just what I needed.
VAIM- Jon Fosseβs prose is like a weighted blanket for meβ a form of comfort, yes, but also a firm embrace, unlike anything else. In this new piece, he explores the interior lives of three characters tied together by their relationship to a woman named Eline, the two boats named after her...
Brilliant program... congratulations! Look forward to attending. π
Money talks, bullsh*t walks. π
I can never express how much they mean to me.
The Loser's June show is going to be DURAN DURAN, and I can't wait to celebrate all of girls I was crushing on in when I was in Middle School. John Taylor magazine pinups 4 Eva!
Thanks Losers for another fab night and see you in June...
Yet another fantastic night with The Losers Lounge celebrating the music of Linda Ronstadt. Really moving set of gorgeous songs, arranged, performed, and sung beautifully. These shows remain a constant source of joy at a time when we need so much more joy & community in our lives...
New post up at The Back Row Manifesto, discussing what trends I am seeing in this year's Cannes Film Festival lineup. More Cannes coverage from the festival coming in May. Give a read if you're inclined, subscribe if you care to. Thanks! #Cannes
