Phillies will try something different to help the struggling Taijuan Walker Walker will pitch Wednesday against the Cubs as planned, but he will come in after an opener, a "trial and error" move to address his issues in the first inning.

Reyes, 25, is off to a 27-for-81 start with six homers (two last night) for Lehigh Valley. He’s a right-handed hitter, with some experience in LF and a little bit at 3B. But he’s here now because he hit .371 with a 1.091 OPS vs. lefties last season; 6-for-20 so far this year.

Taijuan Walker is a short-term problem. Here's one that isn't going away:

The Phillies have faced 6 non-opener lefty starters (Latz, Gore, Griffin, Ray, Imanaga, Pérez). They've batted .145 (17-for-117) with 37 strikeouts against them. And they're about to be 0-6 in those games.

OK, so Zack Wheeler will make one more rehab start Sunday for Reading in Bridgewater, N.J., weather-permitting. That puts him in line to rejoin the Phillies' rotation next weekend in Atlanta, which means Taijuan Walker's spot will come around once more on Wednesday in Chicago.

Jesús Luzardo’s gets hit hard in an 11-2 rout by the Cubs as Phillies’ early-season concerns mount After his latest outing against Chicago in which he gave up 12 hits and nine runs, Luzardo has now allowed 28 hits and 20 earned runs in 22⅔ innings for a 7.94 ERA through four starts.

After his worst start in 11 months, Jesús Luzardo was clear that he isn’t tipping pitches. In that case, add him to the list of Phillies early-season concerns. It’s a long list. From @inquirer.com: www.inquirer.com/phillies/phi...

Edmundo Sosa homers in the Phillies’ 10-4 loss to the Cubs. Will he get more playing time at third base? The Phillies jumped out to a 3-0 lead thanks to Sosa, who filled in at third base for Alec Bohm. "If he keeps performing, we’ve got to find a way to get him in," manager Rob Thomson said afterward.

Adolis García is ‘a strong candidate’ to get a look in the Phillies’ search for a cleanup hitter García, who has two homers and is only slugging at a .380 clip so far, is poised to get the next chance as Rob Thomson tries to find a long-term solution behind Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper.

Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper homer as Phillies snap skid with 4-3 win over Diamondbacks The Phillies entered having lost three straight, but back-to-back homers in the third inning from their two sluggers provided all of the offense needed for them to climb back to .500.

The best way for the Phillies to generate offense — and to mask their lineup’s warts — is for Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper to deliver. When they do it together, it’s a tough formula to beat. “That’s what we need.” From @inquirer.com: www.inquirer.com/phillies/dia...

The Phillies’ Zack Wheeler will make his fourth rehab start on Tuesday. Will he need a fifth? Wheeler’s minor-league assignment can last for up to 30 days, which would enable him to squeeze in a fifth start next Sunday. Unless he and the Phillies agree that he doesn’t need it.

Zack Wheeler's return date is getting clearer. Circle the Phillies' April 24-26 series in Atlanta on your calendar. From @inquirer.com: www.inquirer.com/phillies/zac...

(2/2) “He was old-school, man,” Turner said. “Not a lot of numbers. Just pure confidence almost. I always thought I was a good baserunner and took a lot of things in and tried to be smart about it. Just having him in my ear and saying, 'Just trust it and go,' was nice and kind of a change of pace.”

(1/2) Davey Lopes coached Trea Turner for two seasons with Nationals early in Turner’s career. “He’d look at me [at 1st base] and say, 'Why are you still standing here?'” Turner once said. “He wanted me to run. ‘Just go, just go, just go.'” Turner stole 33 bases in 2016 and a career-high 46 in 2017.
