I was in an ancient woodland yesterday (White Posts Wood, Essex, TQ5682) when I found the Hazel Leaf-roller Apoderus coryli and Dendroxena quadrimaculata. Nice beetles I haven't seen in ages.
A wildlife disaster unfolds alongside the human tragedy in the Strait of Hormuz
@greenpeace.org reports Iranian vessel Shahid Bagheri, stuck by a US warplane in early March, is still leaking oil near the Strait, with nearby wetlands at risk:

Our latest research shows that UK songbirds are routinely exposed to toxic pesticides, covered today in @theguardian.com
We welcome the commitment from Ed Miliband to accelerate the transition to clean power. Regeneration of our ocean is critical in tackling climate change. We need strategic marine planning that accelerates ocean regeneration alongside development of renewable energy.

Natural England failing to protect valuable sites. Our report for @wildjustice.bsky.social shows that nearly 2/3 of sites waiting to be designated as SSSIs were under threat from development. One site in Thurrock will be directly destroyed. www.theguardian.com/environment/...
@sarahfinch.bsky.social is a living legend.
An image of a person with a pushchair down a residential street near inconsiderately parked cars. The person is wearing striped clothing and walking past a black car. The setting includes brick buildings and a view of houses on a hill in the background.
It's happening! 📢
On Tuesday, MPs will consider an amendment to enable local leaders to ban pavement parking in their area. We need you to help us get this amendment on to the Bill.
Ask your MP to agree to Amendment 265 when it's considered on Tuesday: https://bitly.livingstreets.org.uk/4tMU2Uq

Will you join them?

For the second day, the person engaging in the unlawful practice is not a lawyer or an immigration advisor. Yet this nuance is totally absent from the framing.
For the second day, the specific example on which the article is based makes un-evidencrd links to rising claims.
It's deplorable.
Extraordinary that nowhere in an article on resilience did PM find space to include the growing threat posed to UK security by the dramatic decline in the health of nature around the world - especially since his own intelligence chiefs have recently spelt it out for him in no uncertain terms 👇
“We allow at least 100,000 trawlers to scrape the ocean floor, w/out even knowing what they are catching. It is important that governments… exclude bottom trawling from large swathes of the ocean, particularly from so-called marine protected areas.”

James Bembridge on X: Hate is too weak a word for what I feel towards the NHS. I'd tear it down and salt the earth upon which it stood.
Lovely people, these Reform UK candidates for the upcoming election, and great to know they're on our side.

The wonderful Patrick Barkham @patrickbarkham.bsky.social is running the 2026 London Marathon dressed as a 🦡 in aid of Norfolk Wildlife Trust’s land acquisitions for nature. Please watch his message and consider sponsoring him ☺️
I don't need much persuading to go on a #WoodlandPlant hunt! This week's #WildflowerHour challenge gave me the perfect excuse this afternoon to go and check on my local Early Purple Orchids, Orchis mascula. They are just getting going, but there was one beautiful stand out specimen. 😍
BOOM!
South Australia's power prices have plummeted as they near 100% renewables, proving to the world that relying on wind and solar with battery back-up is possible, more reliable and costs people less.
THIS is how we avoid the next oil crisis.

The @nationaltrust.org.uk only rarely ask their members to take political action, but when they do, it’s seismic.
Please take the NT’s action, email your MP demanding the Government protect 30% of the UK for nature by 2030: campaigns.nationaltrust.org.uk/page/186395/...

Nearly 1 in 6 UK species are threatened with extinction.
We've lost 97% of our wildflower meadows since the 1930s.
We have 73 million fewer birds than in the 1970s - a decline of almost a third.
And yet some politicians still just see wildlife as a blocker to progress.
Just a heads-up to all people of Brighton & Hove, our ignorant &irresponsible @brighton-hove.gov.uk allowed Glyphosate to be sprayed along our road verges 4 years!!
“Today’s figures reveal that the UK’s glyphosate addiction has spiralled out of control. Our overuse of this toxic chemical 🧵

Hate fox hunting and want it to end? Well the Govt has just released a public consultation on banning it for good.

A GENTLE REMINDER: we are trying to eliminate fossil fuels because using them kills us.
If fossil fuels were cheap (they're not) or reliable (they're SO NOT), it would still be urgent to get rid of them because their intended use destroys our life support systems.

Daily Mail social media image claiming: It’s grim when your child is banned from bringing home a picture of Jesus to plaster across the fridge door
I debunked the original headlines about these school guidelines when they first came out a couple of weeks ago.
But then the Daily Mail pushed this on Facebook over the Easter weekend, so I felt the need to address that too!
