in general, his point about how people in government consider these as "facts" when they are, again, constructed metrics / interpretations is a dangerous thing. No normal person is reading the other context in data releases, they are hearing unemployment and thinking people have a regular job.

point of the article is that constructed metrics like unemployment don't represent reality perfectly. I don't care about or trust the author, but big unemployment metrics (Which, regardless of context, are what get headlines) not matching reality merits thinking about how to communicate the point

I think very few things need a snap response, is my thing. Especially on social media, which is designed to prey / profit on that impulse - I’d much rather only give a quick response to praise something rather than voice disagreement. I don’t think anyone here meaningfully disagrees with anyone else

It’s hard, but worth trying. I’ve been lucky to have people in my life who extended that courtesy to me, and so I try to do the same. I frequently fail, but it’s a good thing to aspire to. I think it’s worth the time. I’m not sure what you mean by not speaking at all, I’m not judging your character.

I think many people (myself included) have been trained by social media etc to *reallyy* want to make snap decisions and get the reaction + feelings that follow. Sometimes you need to sit with things. It takes time to understand someone’s character, it’s usually unfair to judge on singular instances

I desperately need people on this app to stop using like, weird millennial speak. “Erm, just got here from *THE OTHER PLACE*” “wow I like this so much more than *THE BAD APP”

You can say twitter it’s ok. You don’t need to do this.

It always really irritates me when I see friends flippantly talking about leaving. it’s an absurd privilege most people don’t have, and anyone with the resources to seriously consider it owes the people of the country so so much more.

I will try to use this app but yet again the problem remains that there are not people here who are cool in a weird way, or weird in a good weird way.

So many professions have a “yeah this thing is easy to fake but if you bite it/lick it/put it in your mouth you can tell” type thing.
