As a trans comic artist and writer who’s in the midst of working on a trans themed story, that’s one of the things I love about webcomics. It doesn’t feel like I have to ask permission to tell my story. I can kinda just find my own virtual corner and draw doodles to my words in peace.

As for the pen name, I loved the pun-ish playfulness of “Ava Eerie” as a form of “Aviary”, and then I messed with the spelling to make it my own.

Trial and error. I dismantled my deadname, kept the letters I liked and made a new name. A friend asked the correct pronunciation early in and I changed my mind on the spot. Also, I really like birds, which helped solidify the choice. And thusly Ava was born.
