I’m having a difficult time focusing on work I need to do. I just want to be outside, ride my bike, compost stuff, and look at plants.

Wow, I had forgotten about those!! I don’t think I ever bought or drank one, but they did look cool.

A good way to understand something better is to go broader. To help students see that everything inside the computer is stored as a number, rather than just looking at text, images and sound, why not include other things such as programs, dates and times?

“Imma try to read it. I need to get better at reading.”

I offered him the summary of part one. He declined. With roughly 70 days left in his senior year. HE decided for HIMSELF to read.

Never too late.

Learning happens in its own time and way.

For each, a size.

Something our Principal at a combined Middle and High school does that I feel especially proud of and grateful for:

She has a live video announcement everyday and always ends it with a smile and the phrase “Have a great day Mardela and remember that you are loved.”

How AI shapes your feed: An explainable social media simulator for the classroom - Raspberry Pi Foundation Learn about Somekone, a research-informed tool to help teachers explain how AI shapes social media data profiling and recommendations.

A demo that shows what happens under the covers with an algorithmic social media feed. You can see what data is collected and how it is used. This sounds like a great idea for a classroom activity!

After many years teaching in ‘traditional’ dress shoes, I can’t wear them anymore. I walk 3-5 miles throughout the day. I rely on AllBirds or nice looking and comfortable shoes. I also have mostly forgone the tie - I don’t see the point of them. Fashion changes.

Though for digital literacy, I do like Google’s Interland - beinternetawesome site which is very accessible for students on Chromebooks

When I read this standard I take it with a grain of salt and make sure they just know how to navigate files / folders, and search safely.

I still think there is a place for this in digital literacy though. I grew up on c: prompt and windows where everything was sorted by topic - heck even “surfing” the internet was just clicking on Yahoo links!

Maybe file explorer or Google Drive - organization of files / folders might help

I see your point! It does feel like training for a specific product, but, if we focus on the problem solving aspect rather than the brand specific ‘buttons’, maybe that would help more.

I’m sorry I don’t have any slides. I use an iPhone my wife uses Android; I have trouble finding settings on hers

I understand! It just came across my FB feed, and I remembered your quest, so I was just passing it along. I wonder if the Homegrown National Park or another similar org has any part-time, remote positions available. I’ll keep my eyes open for anything else.

Be kinder than necessary.

Small steps (very small steps) forward help build momentum; it’s okay to feel the weight of everything - it’s a logical reaction; it isn’t forever; if you are going through something, keep going. And most importantly, connection matters - find connection and you’ll remember your purpose.

That is so cool!

I agree! It could even be a way to check their understanding perhaps! A “explain this joke” exit ticket or something like that! I’d like to try that with my students if that’s okay with you.
