It's funny how John Weidman wrote both by far the best and the worst book for a Sondheim show (Pacific Overtures and Assassins respectively) yet I consider him my favorite librettist that has ever worked with Sondheim purely because Assassins' book is THAT good.
It's not a complicated song on a technical level (Although I adore the rhyme "you aside" with "suicide"), but every line is genuinely raw as fuck. It's such a FEEL song. You don't listen to it because it's melodic or lyrically profound (eventhough it is). You listen to it to FEEL the RAGE, man.
