Now 10 straight months of year-over-year decline in transit ridership in Canada.

👏 Canada 👏 Post 👏 is 👏 a 👏 public 👏 service 👏
Nothing proves how capitalism has brain rotted everyone than thinking the post office, hospitals, public transit, libraries, etc. need to turn a profit to be worthwhile.
Would love to do this with @bikeottawa.bsky.social too. Thanks for sharing and encouraging this Cathy!
Two of the parents I spoke to for this story are buying bottled water for their daughter’s entire kindergarten class.
And another one, same day!
My husband and I are heading to see Something Rotten at the GNAG Theatre tonight. We would ride our own bikes, but rain looks like it might get heavy. It would be so nice to bike share there and then have options for the way back home.
This week's "bike share would have helped here": my in-laws are visiting from Calgary, it's beautiful weather, and they enjoy e-bike rides at home. It would be great for them to bike with our family using bike share.
But Ottawa had bike share before... 🧐

Canada could choose to help cities expand bike share and alternative transportation networks that would be permanent, but instead will double-down on unsustainable oil and gas. #cdnpoli #climate

Post the best picture you have ever taken of your pet:
Text saying “CONSPIRACY: Turns out the REAL conspiracy was right under their noses the whole time.” Subtext says “ 1 Hour Cities are the Conspiracy. 15 Minute Cities are the Truth.” Via the Urban Truth Collective
Some very wealthy corporations and people want you to think the idea of “15-Minute Cities” is a scary conspiracy.
But it’s really just common sense. More things nearby without always needing a car.
But have you heard of the “1-Hour City Conspiracy?”
Stay tuned.

It's such a great example of the success bike share can yield when done right. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼
And my favourite part of being on the radio is learning who the regular CBC listeners are in your sphere. The first person (other than our comms team and my husband) to text me was the contractor who renovated my kitchen last year! Even contractors want bike share ⚒️ 4/4
I was greeted at the CBC Lobby by a security guard with a ton of questions about cargo bikes (his daughter is interested!). What a great way to start the day. 3/4
One thing I wish I'd expanded on is that the cost for this system is so small for the opportunity it presents, the issues it supports, and in comparison to similar projects (road widening, a new bus route, a parking garage/park & ride, etc.) 2/4

I was in the studio (first-time!) and live on the radio this morning talking about the Ottawa-Gatineau Bike Share Feasibility Study led by @envirocentre.bsky.social.
Will share the link when it's available but you can find more about the study here: envirocentre.ca/a-pathway-fo... 1/4
Ottawa Police didn’t attend after a driver ran a red light and injured a cyclist. 🚲🚨
Here’s the problem: the City tracks only fatal & major injuries.
Minor injuries and close calls go uncounted—yet they cause fear, deter active transport, and affect quality of life.

We're not shrugging, we're begging for action. Hundreds of families in this city say no more - we won't accept road violence. And we demand better of the city and the province.

Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.
The goalie?
But I was riding a nearly empty cargo bike. Could have brought the goalie and their pads in the bike too if I needed to.

It is! It's between a canal and arboretum in central Ottawa. We're very fortunate to have some incredible spaces as a national capital.
Incredible! I hope you love it.
Yes - I've taken both on the trains. This route was great because it's level boarding at both stations so no need to fuss with elevators.
Cassie takes a selfie on her bike wearing a hat and helmet. A hockey stick pokes out behind her. And on the bike path behind her is a kid wearing a helmet and coat on another bike.
We biked to hockey today almost entirely on all ages and abilities infrastructure. And then brought our bikes on the train back home because kiddo was tired after his games.
This is what having good quality transportation options is all about!
Quality bike lanes can magically create new cyclists out of thin air.
"The installation of protected and buffered bicycle lanes was consistently and significantly associated with increased bicycle commuting."

Imagine a city full of 12 unit passive house co-ops with cargo bike garages.
Affordable, sustainable transportation is vital for connected, liveable cities. And for Ottawa-Gatineau, bike share could be a key part of that picture.
We’re proud to have led the new Ottawa-Gatineau Bike Share Feasibility Study 🚲👇
