Sitting here crying while after getting WhatsApped the photo on the right, so let me tell you a little story about how we got here from the photo on the left and why repatriation research matters!

Watching My Friend Pretend Her Heart Is Not Breaking Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer On Earth, just a teaspoon of neutron star would weigh six billion tons. Six billion tons equals the collective weight of every animal on earth. Including the insects. Times three. Six billion tons sounds impossible until I consider how it is to swallow grief— just a teaspoon and one might as well have consumed a neutron star. How dense it is, how it carries inside it the memory of collapse. How difficult it is to move then. How impossible to believe that anything could lift that weight. There are many reasons to treat each other with great tenderness. One is the sheer miracle that we are here together on a planet surrounded by dying stars. One is that we cannot see what anyone else has swallowed.

Viral photo from some years back of a man nonchalantly mowing his yard with a tornado on the horizon .
How it feels doing literally any task right now.
I think it's bad for the President to threaten to annihilate an entire culture and i do not think you are being alarmist if you take his threats seriously and literally.
I’m completely sick and tired of hearing about HP but this article is excellent.
“What you feel in your heart towards the series is almost entirely irrelevant. What matters is what you do, because J. K. Rowling is out there doing a lot of things.”

I had a student recently ask me why I was "so negative towards AI." My answer apparently shocked them.
I said, "Because I judge things by the effects they have on the world. By what they do and who they do it to."

“Do not put money in the pocket of a woman who has sworn publicly to use it to disenfranchise vulnerable populations” is the smallest ask imaginable. It’s not oxygen, it’s not food. It’s television. You can do without. There are thousands of other shows for you to watch.
Me too! She’s so cute, she makes whirring sounds like a robot and she’s got light tips to her fur so she looks kind of like a starling in the right light❤️

Our intrepid explorer (indoors)😂❤️
We adopted a four month old kitten in January, kittens are the best! And resilient, I hope your Chickadee is okay❤️
Flo Mask 50% off sale! These are form-fitting, reusable N95 masks and MUCH cheaper long-run than single use masks.
I've used this for years in hospitals, airports etc & can't recommend it enough! Comes w/ filter replacements.
I have big cheeks w/ a tiny jaw, most masks don't fit me. This does!
Photo of the two Spirit Sketches side-by-side. The left side is a sketched bird positioned in the center of the page, perched semi-upside down on a log yet looking directly at the viewer. They are coloured with a bright pastel turquoise marker with a red throat. There are white and gold painted details to add definition to the bird. There are words written in bright purple marker such as "COSMOS" and "WE ARE ALL MADE OF STAR STUFF". The right side is the sketch done with markers, ink, and a little bit of paint that features a side-profile view of a blue bird with it's wing's outstretched as though it's flying up. Surrounding the bird in the negative spaces of the page are words and phrases such as "MY ONE WILD AND PRECIOUS LIFE", "FOLLOW YOUR HEART", and "FOLLOW YOUR FIRE".
These pieces are now available! ☀️🪶✨

I'm calling for a complete and total shutdown on professors writing opinion essays until we can figure out what the hell is going on
Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
This is weirdly consistent for The Atlantic! Jesse Singal's 2018 article about kids being rushed into transition starts with an anecdote about someone *not* being rushed into transition. Literally nothing happened!
There is no other issue in prestige media that has editorial standards this low.
In our latest, we speak with Cassius Adair @cassiusa.bsky.social about Kansas’s new law stripping trans people of their driver’s licenses overnight, and the long history of state identification documents being used as tools of administrative violence

If you have the means, please donate to the Trans Continental Pipeline right now. They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate and they are overwhelmed with requests. Colorado borders Kansas, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

Because of the National driver register, since their licenses are suspended, trans folks cannot move to another state and get a new license until they remove the suspension on their existing Kansas license.
They can't even escape this by moving to another state.

From someone who’s been in the same situation, you’re not a bummer-being a realist is important at times like this. It’s not your fault that reality is what it is. Consuming things that bring joy is important for the duration of the fight, but doesn’t negate the responsibility to be aware.❤️
Capitalism: You'll never make a living with art. Get a real job
Also capitalism: Please, we need all the art. The machine... it hungers so
i think one of the roadblocks people feel like they’re running into when deciding to donate to mutual aid funds is figuring out what’s trustworthy. i find it helps to outsource that vetting - i trust ian completely, and ian knows & trusts their community in minneapolis.
Oh my god she uploaded a slow motion video and it's amazing. He's just like me fr running as best he can and still going backwards over and over!
There is no case but the moral case. The public health data have precisely the moral valence that we give them and, crucially, that we are willing and prepared to act upon. The process of political development in public health is the process of developing just such a capacity for action - action that will be, by definition, not strictly related to public health in the majority of cases. The intellectual action consists of the movement from "free them all for public health" to, simply, "free them all." Public health will follow.
if you read one essay today public health friends, make it this one. buttondown.com/abbycartus/a...
everyone please check on your adhd friends; they’re probably solving problems that didn’t exist when they woke up
A 2 panel sketch disgram of a 1 meter tall pod. in the second panel, an oval section pops off and a demonic little face with short tentacles flies out, crudely drawn.
My favorite artifact in the "you don't need AI to do art" discourse is, of course, screenwriter Dan O'Bannon's sketch of the facehugger to explain it to Giger.
