JDW is the First Vice Chair but it is the City of LA chairship. Just like in 2024, the Mayor will become the chair.
Posts by
Bass (or an appointee from the City of LA) will be the next chair because it is on a rotation (every 3rd year). Bass could appoint JDW, Padilla, or Yaroslavsky to serve as chair. However, last time, JDW was 1st Vice Chair but then Karen Bass became chair on the rotation.
We break down what might happen next: bsky.app/profile/move...
Political organizing is already happening to select a replacement.
Apologies! We posted the wrong vote table. This is the correct one
If you want to understand how Metro Board members are chosen, click the link. It is all fascinating and highly relevant because of an ad-hoc committee currently meeting on board governance. assets-us-01.kc-usercontent.com/0234f496-d2b...
2. The representative for one of the other sectors (Inglewood Mayor Jim Butts, Pomona Mayor Tim Sandoval, or Glendale Councilmember Ara Najarian) could temporarily fill the chair role to keep the rotating order. Najarian isn’t running for reelection and has chaired twice so less politically dicey.
There are a few options:
1. Dutra stays until the “Southeast Long Beach Sector” schedules a special meeting to select its next candidate. This would likely go to Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson (see weighted vote). Bell Mayor Ali Saleh lost by one vote to Dutra last time and may also be nominated.
The next chair (the Mayor of the City of Los Angeles or her appointee) starts in July. Metro doesn’t mean in June because of the World Cup. So what happens in May?
This is supported by the code (PUC 130051.6)
(b) The membership of any member serving on the authority as a result of holding another public office shall terminate when the member ceases holding the other public office.

Swearing in of new Whittier City Council members is 4/28 so he’s still on board through April’s Regular Metro Board Meeting. But, they’ll have to elect a new Metro Board Chair for the next month (no June meeting). The code governing Metro Board says “shall be a mayor or a member of a city council.”
BREAKING: @metrolosangeles.bsky.social Board Chair Fernando Dutra loses his city council seat in Whittier.
The City of West Hollywood supports the amended motion on the North K Line Extension. A unanimous vote is huge momentum to move this project forward! Let’s celebrate a victory for better transit without delay.

There is a lot of deliberate misinformation being put out there to cause confusion and division when it comes to Mayor Bass' position on the K Line. Here are the facts: Mayor Bass is voting yes to advance the K Line full steam ahead. Mayor Bass also always sticks up for community voices, and will introduce a motion to ensure that.
She took out the motion part @nickandert.bsky.social 👀
I wrote the law that unlocked billions in financing for the K Line extension without raising taxes. Now, LA is one vote away from either building the transit we need, or stalling yet again.
Choose the best route forward now. Choose the San Vicente-Fairfax route.
Visit linktr.ee/KNE for a pre-filled email you can customize, and helpful instructions on how to join the meeting virtually, and more information on the project.
“Full steam ahead” means without delay on the K Line Northern Extension. Can’t wait to connect the South Bay to South LA to Mid City to West Hollywood to the Bowl and fulfill the promise of Measure M! The motion should advance the San Vicente-Fairfax alignment at the Metro meeting on Thursday.
