when I was in grad school, I snagged a 4050N that my CS dept was throwing out. that thing was absolutely unstoppable for over a decade afterward. I should have put it in the acknowledgments section of my dissertation

Life imitates art.

This is such a great listen even if you aren't already absolutely in the bag for dropout dot tv, including insights about
- Decisions
- Making art you're proud of
- Organizing your team
- Exclusivity
- The inescapable tension of running a company and being good to people
- The number 3
- Homestar

Seeing the Bill Watterson originals full of pencil lines of stuff that didn’t work, scuffs the eraser didn’t pick up, white out galore and more was something I needed to see to remind myself that nothing is perfect the first go and tweaks need to be made and you’re allowed to try again.

screenshot of the stamina meter from the game PEAK. it is a horizontal bar, currently divided into four sub-sections: the amount available to you as stamina (green), and the amount that has been subtracted for other temporary game conditions, in this case encumbrance (red), hunger (yellow), and poison (purple).

started playing PEAK by @aggrocrabgames.bsky.social and all I can think about is the genius of the everything-meter

excerpt reads: "I hear stories about directors who scream at actors, or they trick them somehow to get a performance. And there are some people who try to run the whole business on fear. But I think this is such a joke -- it's pathetic and stupid at the same time.
When people are in fear, they don't want to go to work. So many people today have that feeling. Then the fear starts turning into hate, and they begin to hate going to work. Then the hate can turn into anger and people can become angry at their boss and their work.
If I ran my set with fear, I would get 1 percent, not 100 percent, of what I get. And there would be no fun in going down the road together. And it *should* be fun. In work and in life, we're all supposed to get along. We're supposed to have so much fun, like puppy dogs with our tails wagging. It's supposed to be great living; it's supposed to be fantastic."

- Speciest
- Was taught to you in elementary school

"Sphinx of black quartz, judge my vow."
- Metal as fuck

And then showed her all my virtual workspaces, each of which had too many windows with too many tabs

And then my terminals, running GNU screen, with too many screens…

My daughter saw my computer and said “you have too many tabs open.”

I then zoomed out and showed her all the windows she couldn’t see (that had too many tabs)…
