Hi! SkyFeed is struggling and I need to find a solution.
If you don't know SkyFeed, it's a service I built 2 years ago, enabling anyone to build and publish feeds using a visual block-based editor.
SkyFeed is still hosting the most feeds on Bluesky, but that comes at a cost [1/X]

Hey SkyFeed users, fly.io is currently having a "Major Outage" in the IAD region where the skyfeed cache infrastructure is hosted: status.flyio.net
As a result, all skyfeed feeds are currently down until fly.io is back online, very sorry about that.
I'm sorry for the current SkyFeed outage, I'm pretty sure it's caused by @fly.io which I use for smart caching of feeds. It usually works great. See https://status.flyio.net/ for status
All SkyFeed feeds should now be back online, thanks for your patience! This has been the first and only downtime in the last 4 months.

We just reached 40 000 custom feeds on Bluesky! π If you're interested in self-hosting a SkyFeed-compatible feed engine (it's open-source), send me a message and we'll get it set up! It would be great to diversify the ecosystem :) These are the 16 most-used feed generators currently on the network:
90% of SkyFeed feed requests are now served in 24 milliseconds or less, with only about 1% of requests taking 4 seconds or more. And after adding protection against recursive "feed bombs" today (feeds using themselves as an input), over 99.9% of requests now return with a HTTP 200 OK status code!
My shiny new database server ran out of file descriptors because I only set higher limits for users when setting it up, but the DB runs as a systemd service (which has different limits). As a result, some SkyFeed feeds were stuck on old state for up to 6 hours. Sorry about that, should be fixed now!
You may have noticed that SkyFeed is a bit unreliable at times. This is caused by a small number of feeds being extremely slow and blocking the data structures. I'm trying to fix this with some Rust magic, but please also verify that your feeds take less than 10 seconds to generate in the Builder!
I just found and fixed a bug which caused all feeds using "single user" inputs or any type of "list" (input, remove) blocks to fail. If your feed was broken for the last few hours, please check again - there's a good chance it's fixed now!
All SkyFeed feeds are now back online, thanks for your patience! The feed generator backend is now serving 120 feed requests/second :O
New posts might still be a bit delayed, please reply to this post if your feed is having other issues.

The SkyFeed infrastructure is a bit overloaded, I am currently working on setting up a new query engine server and redirecting some of the traffic there. So everything should be back to normal in about 1 to 2 hours, thanks for your patience!

Hey feed builders, Bluesky started rejecting non-UTC-timestamps for new records today (good change!) and SkyFeed had a bug where it did not convert the timestamp when publishing feeds. This is fixed now, so it should be possible again to publish and update feeds!
Due to a small bug in the indexer, lists created using the List Architect (see embed) could not be used as inputs/removes in the SkyFeed Builder. This is now fixed, but you might need to re-create the lists for them to work.

SkyFeed v0.9.3 just went up, including the new Mute RegEx feature!
This release also adds Lists to the SkyFeed app, so you can now create and edit list metadata directly in the app. This includes the ability to convert your existing mute lists to curation lists and vice versa!

The RegEx is only stored locally in your web browser and not sent anywhere. All processing for the mute feature happens locally on-device.
Text Field in the SkyFeed app settings, label "Mute RegEx", contains "long|list|of words|or+ more complex match(es)?|you|want|to hide|\bin all|of the posts|visible in the skyfeed app!"
