If you or someone you know is experiencing abuse, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE
The horrific tragedy in Louisiana is absolutely heartbreaking. We must be taking every step possible to end gun violence and ensure the safety of all children in our country.
The victims and their families are in Leslie, Carter, and my prayers as we mourn and process this senseless act of violence.
HBCU Night at Mercedes-Benz Stadium just hits different 🔥 Black excellence and big opportunities all in one place. From the match to HBCU Talks, it was all love for the #FightingFifth. Great connecting with Arthur Blank and Rich McKay.✨
I show up for mamas like me.
This week, I lifted up the people doing the work, honored the mothers we’ve lost, and introduced legislation to expand access to care and save mamas. From community to Congress, this is what showing up looks like—because every mama deserves to come home safe.
Kicked off the week with the Atlanta Falcons and took action on maternal health by introducing the Tech to Save Moms Act. Catch up on the rest of my week with #NikemasNotes!
Celebrating 50 years of impact and the leaders driving change in our communities. Congrats to Coca-Cola on receiving the Legacy Corporate Partnership Award, and shoutout to 4Kira4Moms for their nomination for the Community Choice Award!
Republicans tried to ram through a long-term FISA extension overnight without transparency or bipartisan input—and it failed. We passed a short-term extension to prevent a lapse, but any path forward must include real reforms, safeguards, and an open, accountable process.
Student loan debt shouldn’t follow you forever. Alongside @rephaleystevens.bsky.social, @adams.house.gov, and @ross.house.gov, I introduced the Clean Slate Legislative Series to help borrowers remove default records from their credit history. This is about second chances and economic opportunity.
Addressing the maternal health crisis takes action. I introduced the Tech to Save Moms Act—part of the #Momnibus—and the Maternal Health Equity Under Medicaid Act to expand access to care for mamas in the #FightingFifth and beyond—because investing in maternal health saves lives.
Republicans just blocked Democrats' efforts to rein in Trump’s unauthorized war.
They chose Trump over the Constitution.
Over the American people.
Over accountability.
This is what unchecked power looks like.
Corruption has no place in our democracy.
We're launching the Anti-Corruption Task Force to hold this administration accountable and protect our elections. This is about transparency, accountability, and defending every American’s right to vote free from fear and intimidation.
This Tax Day, refunds are being eaten up by rising costs. When money is tight, scams and hidden fees hit harder. The CFPB protects consumers—but Trump’s FY27 budget slashes it by 75%. We should be strengthening protections, not weakening them.
Too many mamas lack access to the care they need. I introduced the Tech to Save Moms Act to expand telehealth, invest in digital tools, and connect moms to care in the #FightingFifth and across the country.
We must use every tool available to improve outcomes and save lives.
I’m proud to uplift the Center for Black Women's Wellness and their work supporting Black mamas beyond birth.
As we reflect on the #InHerHonor memorial paintings honoring Black mothers lost, we’re reminded that these losses could have been prevented. Support must extend beyond delivery. (2/2)
During #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, we’re highlighting maternal mental health. Black women are 41% less likely to start treatment for maternal depression, and up to 40% experience postpartum depression—twice the rate of white women. (1/2)
I can’t wait to see what you create!

Young artists in the #FightingFifth and across the country—I want to see how you imagine America’s story. Submit your artwork to my 2026 Congressional Art Competition by THIS FRIDAY, April 17, for the chance to have your work displayed in my Atlanta and D.C. offices or the U.S. Capitol.
Come by the Northwest Library at 6131 Riverdale Road in the City of Riverdale every Wednesday from 10 AM to 5:30 PM to connect with #TeamNikema. My office is here to serve the #FightingFifth and assist with any needs you may have with federal agencies!
On Yom HaShoah, we remember the six million Jews and the millions of others murdered during the Holocaust.
We honor them by refusing to be silent in the face of antisemitism and hate. In the #FightingFifth and across our country, we must never forget.
During #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, we’re confronting barriers to care for Black mamas. In Georgia, 34.6% of counties are maternity care deserts. 15.8% of women lack a birthing hospital within 30 minutes. I’m uplifting the Georgia Health Policy Center and Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies expanding access
ATLANTA STAND UP 🏀🔥
ATL Hawks did what needed to be done. They took down the Cavs and secured their spot in the playoffs. The city is UP.
During #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, we’re shining a light on those improving outcomes for Black mamas. Black doulas provide critical, culturally grounded care that saves lives. I'm proud to highlight the National Black Doula Association, Birth In The Tradition, and the Atlanta Doula Collective.
This is what a public health crisis looks like.
Black women are 2-3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their white counterparts. Black mamas deserve to come home safe.
#BlackMaternalHealthWeek is about awareness, accountability, and action.
Budgets set priorities and Trump’s budget is clear. More for defense, border security, and law enforcement. Less for small businesses, education, and Minority Serving Institutions in Georgia. Cuts to care. Cuts to opportunity. Cuts to the future. We should invest in people—not punitive systems.
Started the week strong with 404 Day and spotlighting #FightingFifth small businesses that keep our community thriving. Catch up on the rest of my week with #NikemasNotes!
CNN article displaying the headline, “US inflation tripled last month on record spike in gas prices” and a subheading saying, “The war with Iran drove up monthly US inflation threefold in March, according to the latest Consumer Price Index report, released Friday morning.”
Consumer Price Index reported that the monthly inflation rate TRIPELD in March. Trump's unnecessary war in Iran is hurting working families in the #FightingFifth and across the country.
No student in the #FightingFifth or anywhere should have to choose between their education and their next meal. I introduced the OHH SNAP Act of 2026 to break down barriers to food assistance for college students by modernizing SNAP eligibility and recognizing the realities of student life.
