I was really pleased to be at the "Climate AI Nordics" workshop. Here's my talk, putting our AI-for-nature together with climate footprint questions: "Bioacoustic AI for nature: how can it tread lightly?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gcpKav1xBg #ai4good #aifornature #bioacoustics
Our November newsletter is out! Read about Klimatkollen securing new collaboration project through CAIN! Plus: our new YouTube channel, where and when to meet us at EurIPS, and the latest jobs.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EUโs Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...
BioDCASE workshop - registration closes next week Oct 10th https://biodcase.github.io/workshop2025/ - Hope to see you there! #bioacoustics
๐ Excited to announce our Workshop on AI for Climate & Conservation (AICC) at #EurIPS2025 in Copenhagen! ๐
๐ข Call for Participation: sites.google.com/g.harvard.ed...
Confirmed speakers from Mistral AI, DeepMind, ETH Zurich, LSCE & more.
Looking forward to meeting and discussing in Copenhagen!
Our paper, โThe Accuracy Cost of Weakness: A Theoretical Analysis of Fixed-Segment Weak Labeling for Events in Timeโ, is now out in TMLR!
It explores tradeoffs in weak labeling for sound events and gives a theoretical basis for adaptive approaches.

I'm happy to announce two excellent keynote speakers for BioDCASE 2025! AND registration is open too! All the details are here: https://biodcase.github.io/workshop2025/ #BioDCASE #DCASE #bioacoustics #PAM
Very exited about this! To start with we are looking to find and label some of their vocalizations to build a vocabulary, and to link them to video events.
Many very interesting audio-visual modelling challenges! I would like to build an audio-visual vocabulary to help understand their behaviour.
Sounds great! If you have a link to the PhD please send it. I'd be happy to have a look :)
Happy to! Are you studying auk acoustics as part of your post-doc, or what is your relationship to these birds? :)
The DCASE 2025 Challenge enters the evaluation phase. Two weeks to the deadline!
The webpage is under development. Hopfully the playable Guillemot icons will have diffetent sounds soon that we collect during the season.
Small webpage for an ongoing #bioacoustic monitoring project I am part of at Stora Karlsรถ: auklab-audio.github.io
Adding #audio will hopefully let us learn more about the life of the Guillemots. What are they saying?
Lesson learned: designing a recording setup is a challenge and lots of fun! ๐
Big thanks to all speakers and participants who joined the first Nordic Workshop on AI for Climate Change in Gothenburg, a great success! ๐๐ก
Next yearโs workshop is already set: June 26, 2026 in Copenhagen ๐ฉ๐ฐ, hosted by our core team at KU & the Pioneer Centre for AI.
Let's keep up the momentum! โก๏ธ
Noise pollution isnโt just an inconvenience! ๐๐ฌ
it can disturb entire marine ecosystems.
Understanding how noise disturbance affects wildlife populations requires powerful models, lots of data and a dedicated team.
See the thread for what is going on in AU Ecoscience #marinemammalresearch ๐
Read more about the already established monitoring setup here: www.balticseabird.com/auklab/, thanks Jonas Hentati Sundberg for making this happen!
For years I've had a long-term personal goal to have a project in my work that requires me to do fieldwork. Early this year I achieved that goal. And this weekend I will go to Stora Karlsรถ and install microphones in a Guillemot colony with my collegues @mogren.ml @delialia.bsky.social. ๐ง

Thank you for writing this book. I study machine listening methods for bioacoustics. Books like this help me understand the variety of animal sounds, which lead to development of more useful methods. And reading about sound and animals is always enjoyable. Look forward to reading it!

Just remembered that Nilo Recalde had an excellent talk about annotation/validation of thousands of audio clips at BioacousTalks: www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0fr..., maybe his software "pykanto" is worth looking at: nilomr.github.io#software. Depends on how much programming you are willing to do!
Yeah, I agree that it is not really built for large annotation projects in that sense. If you find what you are looking for, please write what you find in this thread! I'm also curious ๐
