Well now I look dumb, I forgot about that game (also havent played it or seen it).

Thinking about the Brass series vs Age of Steam. I think its a real shame they went the route of three separate games vs the route of a modular game. I think thats a better value long term.
I own Brass...why would I buy Birmingham or Pittsburgh at full game price?
But anyways, now that theres been another reddit post complaining about the signals on East wash...im going to have to drive it.
Oops, about 5 minutes in the car to go just shy of 3 miles.
East Washington morning commute report.
Drove 3 miles (9 traffic signals), stopped twice for 10" total...barely a stop. About 2 minutes.
Took the bus for the remaining 3.5 miles (16 signals), stopped twice for 30" total. About 15 minutes.
I hope Brandon and Meg stayed in school.
Holy cow it is! I didnt know he was a writer for this game somehow (id have bought it sooner).
They grow up so fast.
Wait wait wait...is that @paullicino.bsky.social coming through my radio mid fight with an abductor in Pacific Drive rambling on about a riddle?! I cant stop laughing!
Holy crap, how do you even get over to the left turn bike lane?
Another edition of "sedans are probably enough" for most trips to the hardware store.
Built a kayak rack off our shed.
I spent 10 minutes over lunch and made a video on this.
No system is perfect, but this operation works pretty well in my experience.

Yes, you do need communications, detection, and a controller from the last decade roughly...but these are things traffic engineers want anyways with signals, they don't conflict with TE departments goals typically.
3 logic steps for a simple detector in the lane buses travel in and you have a bus priority detector that can filter out cars or even speeding buses.
This is technology thats been around for a while!
One big challenge is giving buses priority when in mixed traffic. Well, perhaps it's not as difficult as you might think.
A 6x6 loop detector in the lane the bus travels on at a location that is relatively free from congestion can do this.
If I were to ever get into consulting, my main goal would be to get agencies to impliment Signal Priority using the current technology they have. If they have loop detectors, add more; video detection, draw in specific bus zones.
Build the institutional knowledge first, then add to that.
Pretty nice
It would come with big arms that grab engineers, shake them, and tell them they are smarter than this, use your engineering judgement.
(I dont think the MUTCD is nearly as bad as its implementation)
2 beers after work is my peak spicey level. AMA
We would be able to have downstream signals hold certain phases. We do this at a few locations already using peer-to-peer to peer and logic statements, but in some cases what phases get held might change based on direction.
We use Econolite controllers and have either a 2 or 8 wire interconnect into a RR panel in the cabinet in our area. Its my understanding that just gives us basic information to allow local preemption.
We have few and slow trains, but may get a (slow) Amtrak train in a few years downtown.
If the RR knows which direction the train is coming from, we dont get this information in the traffic signal controller input side of things.
Im interested so we can program nearby signals easier. Right now we have a complicated set of logic statements we write to determine direction.
Maybe we just dont have enough higher speed tracks in our area to have experience with different systems.
But even with 10mph tracks, it would be nice to know direction to prepare downstream signals for future preemption events.
The sloppier the meme, the better.
I continue to refuse that we cant detect trains by direction in the US. I've been told that several times and I just refuse this. How do busier, faster, and multi-track crossings work?
Is train trajectory really left up to the cities to figure out?
The transportstion research on reddit.
This is indeed my strategy
Public: buses cost too much and are draining our budget!
Transit agencies: so anyways, here is our phone.
I always remember this...but i still dont get it.
Watch sounds much worse than warning.
Someone has to create a Pacific Drive style games but with bikes.
Considering all the cool stuff people do with cargo bikes and trailers, it could be pretty cool.
