This is absolute trash. Kids are submitting their original art for AP Studio Art classes. Claiming copyright over that work is genuinely evil.

Not the main point here, but I do not ever recall a federal agency making significant programmatic and personnel changes as a result of the PRESIDENT'S BUDGET PROPOSAL, which does not change any law or funding allocations. Congress hasn't acted yet.

What are we doing here?

The Bush administration literally paved the way for all of the horrors we're experiencing now.

This is very very big. Like a big deal and massive cuts. These can’t even be seen as budgetary since you don’t get much savings in the context of trillions budget. They want the US out of R&D out of science research.

Officials began pursuing what they assumed would be a joint investigation into the deadly use of force, which had been standard protocol. U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Daniel Rosen, who had been sworn in three months earlier, was not available, so details were ironed out between Moriarty, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for Minnesota Joe Thompson and state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension Superintendent Drew Evans.

“We were having an informal conversation,” Moriarty said. “Joe Thompson was saying, ‘Fine, if you guys can work it out.’ I was talking with others, the BCA and the FBI and all of that. We had it worked out.”

All indications were that an investigation was wanted across the board, with signs that federal officials would take the lead. When Renee Good was taken to the hospital, her wife, Becca Good, was interviewed by the FBI. Both Ross and ICE agreed to a use-of-force investigation, according to a person familiar with the decision.

A high-ranking White House official overruled them.

I can't help but wonder whether Trump had DOJ unilaterally declare the Presidential Records Act null and void is to excuse destroying specific damning communications, such as involving this White House official who nixed evidence sharing on Renee Good's killing.

It’s day 123 of the ICE occupation of MN.

Minnesota is out of the headlines, but ICE continues to abduct our neighbors- their tactics have just changed.

Re/read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass (1845), the most famous narrative written by an enslaved person. It lent fuel to the abolitionist movement in the early 19th c.

People keep responding, “Why is this news?” I think the question is, “Why is it news now?” in that nobody ran with it while she had power and her husband being blackmail bait could conceivably have national security implications, but waited until someone who still has power wanted to embarrass her.

The dog that didn't bark in Wednesday's oral argument was that EO is an extraordinary extension of executive power--as if the issue were simply the 'original meaning' of the Citizenship Clause, and not the dangers of handing over control of citizenship to the executive.

from the first book of photography, it's obvious he used polaroids in his process, or to think about and understand his own work. it'd be nice if a scholar or curator did a show or a book or anything about that.

Love those "flower" sculptures by Twombly. Saw some alongside the flower polaroids in Munich some time ago.

jonathan horowitz's coke pepsi is an artwork made of 286 individual canvases with a coke or pepsi can on them, interspersed in a grid eleven cans high and 26 cans wide. it's selling at la modern in april 2026. be sure to tip your art handler.

if you just don't want 145 paintings of pepsi in your house, is it an affront to split jonathan horowitz's 286-panel coke/pepsi (2012) in half with someone who does? should we ask my good friend jacob lawrence? greg.org/archive/2026...

I’m sick of this shit. The mayor made promises about protecting trans healthcare. He’s not following through so we’re holding him accountable

That doesn’t mean we all wish we voted for Cuomo! This isn’t a fucking cult! The whole point of being progressive is we can push our electeds to do better!

This & the cancellation of Title VI/FLAS funding for foreign language & area studies pose existential threats to the social sciences at every R1 university in the country. And it's been ~total 🦗🦗 from our university presidents/chancellors & a total lack of public collective action.
