Canadian astronaut’s bon mots help heal wounds from French language row Jeremy Hansen praised for speaking French in space after Air Canada chief’s linguistic snub exposed tensions and drew rebuke from PM

“[Artemis astronaut] Hansen appears to treat French as part of the job of representing Canada and Air Canada’s chief seemed to treat the language as optional.”

And now the one who will cooperate with a harness is getting some patio time

A day late for #caturday but my pair of voids really wanted to make sure I wouldn’t make the bed this morning

To be fair, that’s a pretty good depiction of what life can feel like with just two of them as it is!

Thanks! It’s already in heavy wardrobe rotation, despite the challenges of putting on a wrap skirt with a kitten in the house…

Latest #garmentsewing project complete! I made the La Ciotat skirt from Sewing Therapy. It was my first time using a pattern from this designer, and it was a nice quick make that will get a lot of use this spring/summer. I also always like a wrap skirt with a lot of overlap and the two ties are cute

At most I could maybe see someone going “that seems…dubious” to buy some time to come up with something more professional sounding than bursting into hysterical laughter.

I'm going to be in London next month and I've got my ticket!

There used to be a swing dance competition in Vancouver called Lindy Bout. When it was in its first year or so and I was at a dance in Seattle, someone asked me about my Lindy Bout shirt, I gave the quick rundown, and the reply was “wait, Lindy Boat, you’re dancing on a boat?”

It was pretty much textbook letting the perfect be the enemy of the good, besides just generally being a crank

Maybe not quintessential, but my favourite was when I missed the stampede over to the starboard side of the ship after an announced orca sighting because I was travelling alone and had just sat down with a tray of food, only for the orcas to swim up the port side where I was

I even wound up being accidentally on trend while wearing a reproduction of a 100 year old dress, there were a lot of people doing the sheer dress over a slip thing!

I went for the sleeveless 1920s repro. It was very warm in the room, so I made the correct choice from that standpoint alone!

I mean, given how many Dems responded to the 51st state stuff with “yay, another blue state!”, as if we’d a) have a vote in that scenario or b) go along with their parties instead of creating a Canadian independence party if we did somehow have a vote…

I don’t have a pic handy but the next gen lives in my neighbourhood, there’s someone who has MMMBOP on a little Corolla or something like that

Yeah, I think I’ve got it down to a toss up between the 20s repro and the green Silversaga. I’m travelling just far enough for this to need an overnight stay so I can’t bring all 4 but if I’m really still torn when I’m packing I might throw the top 2 into my bag…

This is the most recent of the bunch, the Deer and Doe Mistral in stretch velvet. The photo shows a woman in a floor length green velvet dress, standing in front of a window with city lights in the background

This one is simultaneously the simplest and most interesting of the bunch, it’s a repro of an extant plus size dress from the 1920s that I made as part of the Plus Pattern Project in 2021. Because it was the height of covid, it then languished in my closet for a very long time. I haven’t posted about #garmentsewing in ages, but I’m going to a #frocktails event in 2 days and I can’t decide what to wear, so I’m yelling into the void for opinions…

Huh, didn't know there was a change. Bet that explains why my building in Mount Pleasant is about to hit 3 weeks with no recycling pick up!

The automatic feeder for kibble has stayed on DST year round anyway, but at least I won’t have cats mad at me because canned food is late anymore!

Yeah, basically in winter I’m getting up in the dark, going to work in the dark, and coming home in the dark anyway, shifting it an hour doesn’t change much about Dec/Jan, and as you say I’d rather have a 9am sunrise in winter than a 3am sunrise in summer

The game itself was bad enough for my blood pressure, why would I subject myself to that comment section?

If anyone knows what it's like to see your dreams of Olympic gold crumble, it's Kurt Browning. I won't have time to watch until later, but I checked the results and couldn't believe what I was seeing, basically no one finished where I expected.

I was a French immersion student who did a three month exchange to Quebec when I was in grade 10, and I completely agree! Very much a formative experience and improved my French fluency greatly. It's a bit rusty these days, but I can still read and understand at least

Wikipedia’s list of notable alumni for my high school has no one I’ve ever heard of…I did have a friend called James Marsden, but he isn’t the dude who was in X Men

I mean, absolutely, we should read the fine print, but a nuclear war wouldn’t stop Canadians from playing “ice hockey.”

Relive dorm room parties from undergrad, on a larger and classier scale!

I hadn’t opened it yet today until I saw this, just did and I can already tell that half of my guesses are going to get “not in word list”

And yet as a Canadian just up the coast from you, I’d totally call that a chicken burger!
