After 10 days in space, the NASA Artemis II mission will return to Earth today, with an expected splashdown time at 5:07PM PM PT off the coast of San Diego. Welcome back, Artemis!
You can watch the whole thing live on NASA's YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m3kR...
Last month, we participated in the Great Orion Dark Sky Festival near Death Valley NP. We hosted solar demos and solar telescopes, astrophysicist Q&A panels, and astronomy presentations by Dr. Cameron Hummels on black holes, galaxies, and the formation of the solar system.
Last month, we teamed up with Ventura College to host two days of public astronomy lectures and telescope sessions. Dr. Cameron Hummels gave presentations on galaxies and black holes, and put on solar observing sessions and a star party.
Caltech and NASA JPL scientists are tracking Artemis II on its way to the Moon. These images were taken using the Hale Telescope at Palomar Observatory, one of the largest telescopes in the world.
Last Friday, we hosted former NASA JPL Director Charles Elachi. He provided a bird's eye view of NASA's approach to exploration with lots of anecdotes from his time in leadership. Dr. Elachi's fantastic presentation is now up on our YouTube channel:

Next week, we'll hear from the former director of NASA JPL, Dr. Charles Elachi, discussing some of the missions he oversaw to Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Come learn about these strange worlds and what we still have left to learn about them in future missions!
We're partnering with Ventura College to host a public lecture on "The Science of Black Holes" followed by guided stargazing with telescopes in Ventura this Wednesday night (March 18). For more information, directions, and to RSVP, please visit: forms.gle/W4kS9ay9Ep8a...
The first of @caltechastro.bsky.social and DSA’s Science Fiction Film Series featured free screenings of “Interstellar” and “WALL-E”, each with a short intro on the real science behind the movies. The day also featured a visit to the 5th grade class in McGill. Thanks for joining us at the movies!
What do we know about the moons orbiting Jupiter? What can they reveal about their possibility to host life? We hosted planetary scientist Tim Proudkii this week to discuss these topics and more. Now up on our YouTube channel:
