Maine's new law allows households to plug approved solar units (up to 1,200 watts) directly into standard wall outlets to lower electricity bills.
Curious to learn more about plug-in solar? Dig into our policy brief 👇
ICYMI ☀️ Earlier this week, Governor Mills signed legislation to make Maine the third state to pass plug-in solar legislation, joining Utah and Virginia (awaiting Governor Spanberger's signature) in advancing laws establishing rules for these portable devices.

“We need to create the right policy environment to accelerate the EV transition. Instead we’re going in the completely opposite direction." — Deborah McNamara, @debmcnamara.bsky.social
GM lobbied against its own EV goals when the repeal of the pro-EV regulations further diminished the company’s chances of hitting key sustainability goals. 👀
Trump’s gutting of pro-EV regulations was backed by several large automakers. More specifically, General Motors' $20-million 2025 lobbying blitz (more than almost any other U.S. company) helped overturn federal & state-level rules on vehicle emissions & fuel efficiency.

Your electricity bill is rising. But there’s a simple solution most states are blocking. 🔌☀️
Plug-in solar panels can lower energy bills almost instantly. They plug into a standard outlet & can save households hundreds of $$ a year. Yet outdated state rules make them hard to use in most of the US.
"The missing element is a powerful public voice. You need a large, publicly traded company like Vail Resorts to publicly lobby, advocate, use their voice, and use trade group pressure to push on change. And that just hasn’t happened.” — @audenschendler.bsky.social
“Business knows what forceful activism and lobbying is; they know how to do it on other stuff. They can do it on climate. We need some aggressive risk-taking." — Auden Schendler, former head of Aspen Skiing Company's sustainability program for 26 years + current ClimateVoice Advisory Board member
NEW Yale Climate Connections article highlights how in a catastrophic year for climate, ski areas are taking some action on climate, but advocacy still seems to be a touchy subject.
