A grand old staircase with candles on all the steps, under an archway with big dragons at the top of the archway.
Arrived at @iassistdata.bsky.social conference! What a lovely building to have the opening drinks reception in. I'm presenting on Thursday about the data governance review we carried out at the University of Leeds Library Research Data Service. Maybe see you there!
Have you had a look at our lovely new Open Research Hub? It's open to all! researchculture.leeds.ac.uk/open-researc...
That's great, see you there!

Really pleased that our submission to @iassistdata.bsky.social conference with @helenrdm.bsky.social has been accepted! Looking forward to heading to Bristol to present our review of data governance practices in the University of Leeds Research Data Repository.
Looking forward to speaking at this event today! I'll be discussing how we've tackled the challenges of sharing qualitative data and worked towards building a stronger governance framework.
Yesterday I read an article about information being made available on the Blockchain, so it can never be deleted (it was classified info currently on wikileaks). As open research folk, do we need to engage with what blockchains might mean for making info/data permanently available for free?
I would be absolutely devastated about that! I love my diet coke treats.
A very large real tree with Christmas lights. In front of the tree is a large sculpture with 2 black wavy identical lines going up into the air.
The University of Leeds christmas tree looking lovely last night.
I helped to organise an ALN event this morning on how HE libraries can support asylum seeker and refugee communities. We heard about so many amazing resources and services that University of Leeds, Lancaster University and University of Chester Libraries have been providing. It was very inspiring! β€οΈ
It was a pleasure to host yesterday's open lunch about empowering open research in Africa. More info in the thread below. #openresearch β¬οΈ
Photo of a large art print in a black frame. The print has 4 large semi circular type shapes, one above the other. The shapes have lots of bright colours, patterns and thick black lines.

A very cute black and white cat called joey, curled up in a ball, surrounded by duvet.
And as a special Christmas treat, here is my cat joey making the most of my daughter's bed while she is at school today.
It's been a bit of a slog but we've finally made it. Happy Christmas everyone! π

And finally we heard from Alison Sharman, Kate McGuinn, Rachel Welch and Erika Butane about their human library events. They have produced a really useful tookit for those thinking about organising their own human library event: hud.libguides.com/HL
Nest up was Kirsty Carver and Tony Wilson presenting their project on library services for international students. They are currently writing up a report which will be disseminated across ALN in the new year.
Then we heard from Sarah Bishop about their project which aimed to highlight racist tropes & to encourage people to consider what it means to be anti-racist. Sarah has produced an anti racist toolkit in collaboration with Marsha Garratt and this will be released in the new year.
Next up was Nicola Euston and Emily Parsons talking about their project that aimed to help students view their cultural collections through an EDI lens. They produced 2 videos as part of the project: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eMK... and www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyWc....
We also heard from @lesley-e.bsky.social and James Stephens about library access and support for local refugee and asylum seekers. They have produced a libguide as part of the project: lancaster.libguides.com/refugee
Currently hearing from the amazing EDI projects funded by the ALN Innovation Fund. Joanne Fitzpatrick has just told us about their neurospicy project, more info at their website: neurospicylibraries.wordpress.com
I've just moved to one note from a physical notebook and it's changed my life! I can't believe I waited this long to change. π
