AI has replaced all regex developers

Learning the hard way that the most important setting to turn on in PhpStorm is ā€œdrag-and-drop with ALT pressed onlyā€ because it is waaay to easy to accidentally move files/folders otherwise.

Preparing the email notifications and blog posts for perhaps the biggest launch in my 30+ year career. Certainly biggest in the last decade.

I may vomit.

If Air Canada has to email me ahead of my flight to tell me the plane does NOT have a functioning seat back entertainment system I’m guessing that means no wifi either. I pretty much have to cancel right?

Schedueld Task Health Checker Schedueld Task Health Checker. GitHub Gist: instantly share code, notes, and snippets.

The gist of what I did

Facade, Controller & Sample console command that runs on a 5 minute schedule. Enum for good measure.

Going live very soon with a Laravel app that requires a lot of scheduled tasks.

So I created a custom health check. Each task logs its success and failures in redis and an endpoint checks that log and returns an appropriate status.

Cloudflare checks it and I can sleep at night.

I’ve been coding almost daily for 30+ years and I’m still learning with AI

Your use case is where I think AI is excelling. Using it to educate yourself. For anyone who is accustomed to self-learning it’s such powerful tool.

That does sound great. I do use claude a lot if in need to rubber duck an issue.

I’m still pretty hesitant about letting AI replace anything beyond the string or function I’m looking at. I don’t trust my test coverage enough.

Over all it’s pretty amazing we have any of these tools.

While I haven’t tried Cursor I can say copilot works great I pay for Pro tho.

I got CoPilot working well in PhpStorm now. It does use a bit more ram but I was looking for an excuse to upgrade to 64gigs

It’s been a few days since I tried switching from VSCode to PhpStorm w/ Laravel Idea.

I don’t think I will be switching back. I am having some issues with key mapping for GitHub CoPilot but otherwise my expectations have been exceeded.

Oh just great. Now I’m going to be dreaming of even more side projects I don’t have time for!

Claude Talk with Claude, an AI assistant from Anthropic

I just spent many hours trying and failing to debug an odd css issue which creeped into production.

I finally asked Claude.ai

Oh. That’s a common tailwind issue apparently. There’s a simple config tweak that fixes it.

I really love AI even when it makes me feel stupid for waisting hours.

Yeah the irony isn’t lost on me. I use Windows + WSL2 and the official extension doesn’t seem to support my setup yet. I’m sure they will get there but all the chatter on the extension has also highlighted how many people like Laravel Idea & PhpStorm.

I’ve happily used VSCode for many years for Laravel development. But I’ve also used JetBrain’s DataGrip for many years and happy with that. Well it’s a new year so giving PhpStorm a 30 day trial.

What are the chances I will be left wondering what took me so long?

My fav is equal parts, rolled oats, frozen blueberries & milk with a healthy tablespoon of natural peanut butter and Greek yogurt. Then in the morning add some bran buds and a tiny splash of milk before stirring it up.

Overnight oats FTW

had an absolutely brutal moment of self awareness as I realized that when I listen to ambient music called like Aleaeris 7: the Adonis Tapes by HĆørst it's fulfilling the same purpose as my grandparents buying records called The Jimmy Cresp Orchestra Presents Tahitian Melodies

Why is crafting the 'About' page for a new project the ultimate test of creative endurance? šŸ˜©šŸš€ #buildinpublic

I haven’t needed this component yet but I will be excited when I do.

I’m dropping a new project in the next week and flux has been a real treat to use and gives the project a real polished look.

Learning with AI is so powerful.

In your prompt: Briefly explain your use case. Add a summary on your likely solution. Then ask the AI to expand on this and provide alternatives. Try this w/ claude.ai

You’re going to learn something new. I guarantee it.

That dopamine hit when you’re working on refactor for 3 hours and it just works.

Love doing a little bin diving and finding key issues from my childhood.

1st appearance of Snake Eyes in G.I.Joe.

Also 2nd appearance of Monica Rambo & Captain Marvel joins the Avengers.

Life isn’t all code. There’s also comic books (and family and kids of course)
