As people celebrate 4/20, let’s be honest about the contradiction: In many states, marijuana is legal. In too many lives, the consequences are still permanent. People are still carrying records. Still locked out of jobs, housing, and opportunity - for doing what is now sold legally in storefronts. That’s not justice. That’s hypocrisy. State laws have changed, federal law hasn’t. And thus: Small businesses are squeezed. Research is restricted. A growing industry is taxed and regulated in some places - generating real revenue - while the communities most harmed by prohibition are still waiting to be restored. We should be building a fair, well-regulated national framework that de-schedules, taxes responsibly, expands research, and reinvests in the very communities that paid the highest price. Progress has been made - because people fought for it. But we are not done. 4/20 shouldn’t just be a celebration. It should be a call to action. Expunge records. End the disparities. Empower small businesses Pass comprehensive federal reform.
