To be clear, it's not just the government who is an increasing threat to independent journalism. Rich people—from Peter Thiel to Elon Musk to Maury Blackman—are doing their best to sue news organization's out of existence.
Hard to describe as a journalist how grateful I am to have a text-based app that does not suppress hyperlinks. I don’t know if people realize exactly how hostile the corporate internet has gotten toward news.
