The reason there's no working class representation in publishing is because publishing and writing currently pay so badly only people who are already financially stable can afford to do it.
The problem is always, always money.

I’ve written a book for Collins Big Cat Read On! Annie has uncovered a hidden alcove in the kitchen. Inside is an old telephone; there’s a message from the past… and a mystery to solve.
'Time Travel Telephone' is illustrated by the wonderful Alexandra Pulga.

Two books in a small pile. The top title is 'Family Tree', the orange cover shows three children peering into a suitcase. The bottom title is obscured but also orange and the obscured title is likely 'Family Business'.

I've got a new book out! 'Family Tree' is the next installment of the Whodunnit Family Detectives with OUP. I hadn't planned on writing a sequel, but we all had such a good time writing/illustrating/editing the first that it felt like a natural next step.

#TheDetentionDetectives: Talent for Trouble - the finale of my MG murder mystery series - launched yesterday and I had a lovely time at @ws_knutsford. There were slightly too many cakes and crisps 🤣 However, everyone bought lots of gorgeous books, not just mine, which was deffo a win-win for all.

Children's books build empathy, compassion, and understanding. They can transport readers to whole new worlds and back again, all without leaving your sofa. They can comfort, they can delight.

They are magical.

My book hoard has been greatly augmented this week, firstly with a juicy set of middle grade murder mysteries (a genre I need to keep up with!),with the last of the superb Scarlett and Browne series, and with Steph W’s A Language of Dragons, which I braved the evening train to Manc to get signed!

I’m probably reading over 80% children’s. Adult, I only read positive recommendations cos I don’t like putting anything ugly in my sensitive little brain. Luckily I work in a school library so have access to a massive stock of great books!

(My meno-memory loss has become somewhat frightening lately. Last week I read Gleitzman's Once - I thought for the first time - then discovered I'd already rated it, in 2022...)

@blackwells.bsky.social sent me a very welcome email this morning to say that they were dispatching my pre-ordered copy of @JonathanStroud's third Scarlett and Browne book. I have absolutely no memory of pre-ordering but I'd like to thank past-me for the kind surprise gift.

I wonder if The Detention Detectives fit here? It was intended for teen but got aged down a bit in the edits.

I have created a starter pack of (mainly) UK children’s authors - I couldn’t find one anywhere. It is a work in progress so apologies if I haven’t found you yet and do let me have any additions go.bsky.app/GLnmxCv
