Gutted to hear that we've lost Ian Watson. I'd been reviewing his early work for Galactic Journey and enjoying talking with him about it. Here is a short review of his 1970 piece about being a British expatriate in Japan:

I’ve just heard that one of the true greats of SF writing, Ian Watson, has passed away. A huge figure of the genre and an enormously entertaining character. A real loss.
Eastercon: while there weren't any panels I *didn't* enjoy, I particularly appreciated trans history, social class, neurodivergence, podcasting, 'the centenarian recycler ship captain' (age/ ageism) & Nicholas Jackson's lecture on geometry & topology in genre fiction.

Anyone who was at eastercon, do you have particular favourites of the panels you attended? I'm listening to stuff on catchup while doing work inbox archaeology.
WHAT EVEN IS WORK? Where are sparkly outfits, anime cosplayers and people making terrible puns about Cthulhu? I miss EasterCon.
SFF/H fans: "the bad people don't get to flood the zone with shit when *we're* around."
Little blog post on #EasterCon and how it went!

Great time all around, such a fun time, and I'm very excited for my next conventions.
Given that this is 1969, perhaps he was upset with John Lennon's decision to return his MBE.

I remember the phrase 'story arc' being used *a lot* at a certain moment in the 1990s :)
Did he credibly think that he was about to be asked (so was prepping), or was it more of a daydreaming, journalist, bucket list kind of a thing from the then PM ..?
Interested to eavesdrop on this chat re fandom and the admissability or otherwise of owning one's enjoyment of TV/ film (possible turning point: 1990s/ B5).
How did late 1970s con-going SF fandom receive 'Star Wars' et al ..? Enthusiastic, horrified or a mixture ..? Does anyone know/ remember ..?

He is risen indeed. Alleluia!
The last time Worldcon was in Germany was 1970. So far 3 of the 620 members of that convention have stopped by our fan table at Eastercon to say hi. We hope we'll be able to say hi to even more Heicon alums in 2028!
Iridescence (@easterconuk@bsky.social) - Torn between bisexuality and hauntology at 6:00pm. I can watch the other panel on catch-up, of course.
Decimal currency: like commercial television (launched in, what, 1955?) an experiment which has clearly failed and should be wound up.
Feel free to add me 😎
Fascinating talk - thank you 😎
Starter Pack for #EasterCon 2026 underway here!

Please let me know who else to add!
Hope you have an amazing time :)
If you wanted to meet others attending for the first time, I am moderating a 'New to Eastercon' event at 4:30pm in the Fan Lounge - you'd be very welcome :)
Arrived - cheers!
If you're here too, I will be at the Trans History panel in 20 minutes, then moderating the newbies/ orientation event at 4:30pm.
Tonight I will be at the Poetry Open Mic and, tomorrow, the bisexuality panel among others (rude not to).
Don't be shy, say hi !
On a crowded train from London Marylebone to Birmingham Moor Street, listening to Dex Legacy episodes and 'Spacefarers' by Christopher Wanjek on Audible, still hoping to make landfall at Eastercon in time for the opening ceremony.
I was at a big anti-fascist unity rally in London (where I live). Great to hear you 'showed up' too - and looking forward to meeting you for the 'Ever-Darkening World' panel we're both on. Safe travels :)
See you there - I've heard great things about 'Writing About Darkness In An Ever-Darkening World' (Sunday 1:30pm). :)
haunted futures?
Welcome :)
