"Kory Stamper's 'True Color' is a strong, brilliant read, not as purple as Bulwer-Lytton and slightly more blue than Bowdler...."
OK, I read it, I loved it, and Amazon won't let me post a review because I stopped giving them money a while back. I don't see where on bookstore.org a customer can leave a review. Suggestions of where else to post?
Just picked up my pre-order from @brooklinebooksmith.bsky.social (Passover got in the way). Looking forward to it!
Jekkes: Soup will be hot in 45 minutes, let's get this seder started!
A reminder of our family's contribution to seder traditions: everyone has a stack of Post-It® flags to mark questions that come up during Maggid --- to be discussed during Shulchan Orech, so we get to eat at a reasonable hour.
I just created a pull request to adjust a timeout. It was assigned PR number 555. At first I was amused but then I felt old. (Nerd humor)
"Why have they removed the Seder plate?"
"Nowruz" is "the winter of our discontent / made glorious springtime by this sun of March"
One of the things I miss about having a social media presence is the opportunity to refine and self-critique my thinking through the process of writing for others.
I needed this today. youtu.be/vvFJqZY7RNc?...
Most of what Pure Cold Press serves is wonderful when eaten fresh. It's our regular place for eating out. But a lot of what's on their menu is, well, meant to be eaten fresh, and you have to be selective when ordering for delivery.
from there to R' Meir and Beruriah and their neighbors, and then back to the Maftir with "remember" and "do not forget" I like what you have here about not just taking care that we stay focused on being for something good rather than against something evil, but that the mitzvot help us do that.
For years I've thought of signing up to give the dvar on Shabbat Zachor, leading with the classic New England bumper sticker "I root for two teams - the Red Sox and whoever is playing the Yankees", tying it to this statement in the Gemara,
Megillah 7b re-typeset so the main column of Gemara follows the shape of the Absolut Vodka bottle, with the caption "ABSOLUT PURIM".
Or, as I typeset it back in 1995...
"I'll fix-name [your] bad fart?"
I can't wait for the quantum version. How many builder's qubits will it need?
That sounds like a dog whistle; the "mixed multitudes" were the non-Jewish slaves who escaped with the Jews in the Exodus and who were, according to tradition, troublemakers later for Moses. Definitely not a positive term, and I'm sure she knows that.
"It's not easy being Mr. Green...."
Minnesota appears to have a state equivalent to RICO; I'm surprised that hasn't been invoked yet.
As in "Vote for the crook. It's important"?
That number again is (617) 332-3333 @repauchincloss.bsky.social

"Bicycles" in the sense that you shuffle 54 cards, look up what word corresponds to the cut card, and repeat until you get a joker.
The number 1 account? AOC is followed by 44% of the accounts that I follow; then there's Ben Collins at 32%, Mark Hamill at 30%, and Chris Hayes at 29% (whom I did not know in high school but who is an HCHS alum). Then NPR, George Takei....
For now, part 1 is just getting the list of "accounts that are followed by accounts that I follow, but which I do not myself yet follow", scored by how many two-step links lead from me to the target account.
I wanted to find BlueSky accounts of friends, and so I thought "I'll use the getFollowers() API to find people that several of my friends follow". Part 2 will be to actually triangulate those relationships into clusters, so I can find NPL friends or high-school friends, etc.
Left a message at @repauchincloss.bsky.social 's office, saying that he'd better be a leader in pursuing articles of impeachment over this.
New Year's shredding is so depressing. Feeding the receipts of my 2018 life into the oubliette and watching the memories come out as confetti, meaningless and ephemeral. Choosing which scraps are spared (I'm looking at you, confirmation slips).
I cried. I cried over and over. What a beautiful speech.
