We are saddened by the passing of Chief Rhonda Larrabee of the Qayqayt First Nation. Her wisdom and guidance will be missed, as will her steadfast support of the @mvtp-blueeagle.bsky.social program. We are sending condolences to her loved ones. The impact she made will not be soon forgotten.

Dogs in Hot Cars - Alberta SPCA Vehicles become very hot in a short period of time. Your dog should never be left in the vehicle, even on moderately warm days. Pets can suffer heatstroke in minutes.

Remember, if the outside temperature is 21°C, the temperature in a parked car can rise to 40°C in just half an hour.

The owner was left in the care of New West Animal Service who issued a fine as well as an order to take the dog to the veterinarian for an assessment. We are hoping that this incident was just a momentary lapse in judgement from a loving dog owner that won’t be repeated.

It was in obvious medical distress. Sgt. McGuinness put his canine first aid training to use and contacted New Westminster Animal Services for help. When the owner finally arrived on scene, they were shocked at what had taken place and said how much they loved their dog and didn’t mean to hurt them.

Luckily, Sergeant Gord McGuinness, the head of the Transit Police K9 Unit, happened to be driving by and the concerned individual was able to flag him down. After failing to get a hold of the vehicle’s owner, Sgt. McGuiness was able to open the vehicle door and get to the dog.

Hi there - while Transit Police officers do enforce fares, most of our focus is on our operational priorities of reducing workplace assaults on transit staff, reducing sexual offences, investigating crimes, etc. The article you have linked to is about Transit Security, not police.
