There are possible solutions! They make padded lap tables with a cushion underneath and a flat surface on top. You can also try a folding table or install a keyboard tray at the proper height like this person did: bsky.app/profile/v3xa...

Maybe not! It really depends on what your own body needs, so you’ll have to try it for a while and see how it feels. I’m just asking people not to discount the screenless tablets :)
An excellent solution! If I didn’t have long, gangly arms I might use a keyboard tray myself 😆
I'm glad it helped you out! :)
Not for me! But everyone's different, so perhaps adding a cushion with a flat surface on top might work better for some people. It depends where your arms fall and how much height you need, too.
I tried screen tablets too, desperate for anything to help relieve the pain and allow me to work longer. Turns out the most rudimentary set up + limited work hours is the best thing for me 🤷♀️
Caveat that this isn't the perfect set up for everyone, and you can mitigate issues with the first diagram to a degree. I've just seen far too much importance placed on screen tablets, they're not the ultimate digital art device. You have to find what works for your body, so try lots of things!
Ergonomic arms can help some people, and I did try them, but just having to raise my arms up to use the tablet is enough to set off my chronic pain. Just wanted to make note of that!
I've seen people put them on their desks or even try to angle them like the screen tablet diagram, but I've always found it far more natural to just rest it in my lap where my hands can easily reach it without moving much.
It might not seem like much, but for myself, just the fact that my shoulders aren't raised up while I draw helps tremendously.
Also, you know, adopt proper posture overall. Don't shrimp on the couch!
A sketchy drawing showing two diagrams of a person using two types of tablets. The top diagram shows a person hunching over a screen tablet set at an angle on a desktop and highlights how the position can cause strain. The second diagram shows a person using a regular non-screen tablet in their lap and sitting straight, looking directly ahead at a monitor, highlighting how the posture can be improved.
I've been getting a lot of questions re: chronic pain + art lately and I'm begging people to consider regular tablets over screen ones, and don't hunch over them. They take some getting used to but they allow for much better posture and reduced strain!

Oh noooooo this is my choice too! I should've stocked up... 😭
It was the first thing I thought of 😂
Sorry, don't know what that is.
Does anyone remember that level in Yoshi's Island called Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy

I did do it on desktop, not mobile.
Yeah, I already boosted it up, and there's definite clear areas in there among the splotchy blur patches. I looked it up and it's apparently some change made within recent weeks. Pixel artists are having their existing uploads get trashed in whatever compression bsky is running on images now 😕
Really! Bsky's always had pretty bad compression, but this takes the cake!
I can't really upload in high res 4K just to avoid it :\ Pixel artists must love this.
Goodness what did Bsky uploader do to my image 😭

Yeah, you get it after you complete the thing on the starter beach (vague for spoilers), which rolls the credits.
I like using some of the large relics for building with, but I trade most of the small ugly ones to the treasure chest Pokemon for random furniture. I'm never putting some of that crap into frames 🥴
I have SO MUCH ash just from tidying up the main area and I'm never gonna build with it, so I figured it was the best item to trade off. I always carry a stack of 99 wall mirrors now 😂
Good to know, thank you!
One more thing, has anyone else cheesed the volcanic ash for trading? Ash to glass to wall mirrors and suddenly it's a 1:1 five hundred point trade item that feels like cheating 😂
At least Blathers will appraise all fossils in your inventory at once 😩
Oh, thanks for the tip! I'll try that!
