"If you can't speak your own sentence aloud without stumbling over it, how do you expect a reader to understand it?"
Reading it silently allows your brain to skip past the parts that don't make sense, because it knows what you mean to say and papers over it. SO many mistakes caught this way.

I must tell my students to do this 5-6 times a semester; today was one of those times, in fact.
At least two Ground Self-Defense Force members died and two others were seriously injured after a tank exploded during training at the Hijudai maneuver area in Oita Prefecture, local media reported.
Funnily enough, at one point we had that, it was called Separation of Powers.
It's so cool that the help desk contact email for Canvas course evals at my uni comes back as an email no longer in service, that's great. So awesome.
No hell is hot enough for the people who designed the Canvas course eval system.

@nhledbetter.bsky.social I've just discovered 'Age of Samurai' on Netflix - wonderful job Nate, very well done all! A great series on the Sengoku era - and the best I've seen explaining the compelling / disturbing career of Odo Nobunaga...
Thank you so much! I just sat and talked but I’m glad it came across well. It was quite the experience.
It's true, if you buy it you have an uncontrollable urge to visit Mecca.
We are so far beyond even Teapot Dome levels of "government captured by private industry" in this country, and Democrats genuinely seem to believe their unpopularity is driven by being too nice to trans people, instead of being driven by their screamingly obvious hypocrisy about this.
Update: 1200 years of climate data now safe with next caretaker!
Others tackled monstrous Brill dense tomes, and so we've had good discussions about trade presses vs. uni presses vs. pop presses, what to expect, how to read/recommend to the appropriate level. It's been a good group, and they've enjoyed me throwing challenges at them.
And each week they keep referring back to previous reviews presented by other students. Three of them selected Jack Weatherford books, and while they've enjoyed reading them, they haven't pulled punches on the criticisms either. Only 3 read them, but the whole class knows how to approach his books.
I've got to say, having the class write critical book reviews (not "book reports") has been pretty great. It's like giving them permission to argue with scholars has unlocked something for them and most of them have taken it very seriously.
Forget about it, Steve.
It's Texas.
DOJ demanded voter files from all 50 states.
DOJ sued 31 states for refusing their demand.
My law firm intervened to protect voters in those cases.
DOJ is now 0-5.
My firm is 5-0.
Lesson: When we fight we win.
You absolutely SHOULD NOT go around telling people that data centers are full of gold, silver, palladium, copper, and that the data centers are almost entirely unstaffed.
Was my and Kid2's first broadway show. So good.
Thanks. Saving for my Fall semester class!
Thr South Korean president criticized Israel, Israel got super mad about the mention of the Holocaust, and not the far worse reference. The president compared them to imperial Japan, which is like the worst thing a Korean can call anyone or anything www.theverge.com/policy/91358...

I’m not suggesting it’s Liberty, but neither is it Oberlin or Berkeley. And ND =\= ND Law (or that AI idiot) but that’s personal for me.
Sitting in a parking lot watching this and laughing like a maniac.
