An ice cream stand.

An ice cream stand.

There are few things more New Englandy than the first day at an ice cream stand in the spring.

Night Into Day The thing changing the world this year is...batteries.

This looks like a complicated chart, but in fact it's some of the simplest and best news imaginable: batteries are quickly turning night into noon. Worth a read if I say so myself

OK, I've been a failure as a father.

I was satisfied with Brio wooden train layouts.

When I could have been building this.

The Xing's World Cat Metro.

I bow to you, sir.

Exploring the Frontier of Feeds - The Open Garden Reorienting distribution and monetization in the attention economy.

Custom feeds are the singular theory of action for growing the open social web and reorienting distribution and monetization in the attention economy.

I don't have all the answers, but the future of social is becoming clearer everyday.

I just got a capacity limitation starting a GPU instance on AWS at *midnight* in us-east-1. Crazy.

There is a trope in VC fueled startup companies that are "wildly successful decacorns" or whatever that basically just reduce to "what if federal crime, but with a computer 🤔"

One of the craziest things about Musk-era twitter is that because linking to anything is penalized by the algo, no one uses links and you have NO IDEA where any of the info you see is coming from. It's madness!

I got invited to an event for JetBlue #25for25 completionists in Boston. The crazy thing to me is that I can bring a +1 but that person must _also have completed #25for25._

JetBlue releases some details on the #25for25 promotion: "2,370 participants from 43 states took on the challenge to fly to 25 JetBlue destinations, with 90 percent completing all 25. JetBlue awarded 811.5 million TrueBlue points..."

We're delighted to be hosting @richferro.com's NFL Playoffs custom feed in collaboration with @bsky.app today! This is a shining example of something only the open social web can do, and why open social will win 🧵

You should be fine if you're just mapping abc -> JSON.

I used it as the backend for pmcal.net (since it was the project I built when I wanted to try Amplify, and the Amplify documentation just pretends it's a normal database) and regret it. At some point I may vibe-code a Postgres replacement for the backend.

If you are using it for a document-oriented data store, it's not bad. If you are using it as the backend for tabular data, it's pretty bad.

There are a lot of footguns in DynamoDB...

1. A 1 MB / 1000 records max response size.
2. Limit refers to the number of records scanned, not the number of records returned.
3. There are pretty much only two read operations: forward table scan and index lookup.

User: How do I download the macOS desktop office apps?

Copilot: Option 1: From Microsoft 365 Account

Go to the Microsoft 365 portal:
https://www.office.com

Sign in with your Microsoft account (work, school, or personal).

On the homepage, click Install apps (usually in the top-right corner).

Select Microsoft 365 apps.
This will download the installer for the full suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote).

Run the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.

User: It's not there any more because that page now redirects to copilot...

Merry Christmas and I hope Jólaköttur the Yule cat didn’t visit last night 😆🎄🐈‍⬛

Can confirm, GIL sucks.

We accepted the restrictions that come with Python multiprocessing and MPS to get around it.

We Let AI Run Our Office Vending Machine. It Lost Hundreds of Dollars. An AI agent ran a snack operation in the WSJ newsroom. It gave away a free PlayStation, ordered a live fish—and taught us lessons about the future of AI.

Gift link, probably the funniest thing the Wall Street Journal has done this year.

A map of my routes flying to 25 cities for JetBlue's 25for25 promotion.

A map of my routes flying to 25 cities for JetBlue's 25for25 promotion.

Five months later, 27 JetBlue flights, 6 non-JetBlue flights, and three trains. I just touched down in Manchester NH as JetBlue city 25.

This is what the map ended up looking like. I am pleased to say that I never missed a connection or was significantly affected by a delay.

Also in charge stats: I spent $2,169 on supercharging this year, which I feel is not a bad fuel bill since I drive a ton and almost exclusively charge at superchargers.
