BREAKING: Today on Tax Day, immigrant rights orgs, pro-Palestine & anti-war orgs, workers, and students are in New Brunswick NJ, launching a campaign to get the state to divest from Palantir.
They're connecting wars abroad to the domestic war on immigrants, and Palantir's role in state violence.
Glad you found some positivity from the piece! That's usually the goal of my reporting.
My latest for Truthout. Along with reporting on the uptick in troops leaving the military under Trump's administration, I wrote about the longer history of wars abroad forcing troops to think about their role in carrying out state violence.
Trump’s Extreme Use of Military Is Stirring a Crisis of Conscience Among Troops
US soldiers have a rich history of questioning the wars they’re told to wage abroad.

Trump’s Extreme Use of Military Is Stirring a Crisis of Conscience Among Troops truthout.org/articles/tru... It’s all people who don’t want to take part in killing in a war that they don’t believe in, and this war has made them realize that they can’t take part in any kind of military action again.

"By the end of the [Vietnam W]ar, opposition within the [US] military's own ranks was so widespread that ... the military was recording hundreds of cases of troops throwing grenades at their officers, a practice known as fragging."
You love to see it

Had a great livestream today with @wickdchiq.bsky.social about the US, Canada, and how they’re ultimately more alike than different.
If you couldn’t catch it live, check it out!

Organizations that provide counseling services for troops are reporting growing numbers of calls. “It’s all people who don’t want to take part in killing in a war that they don’t believe in, and this war has made them realize that they can’t take part in any kind of U.S. military action ever again.”
Over the summer of 2025, four CUNY adjuncts were fired from Brooklyn College as a result of their activism for Palestine: a serious attack on the Palestine movement, academic freedom, and worker rights. But CUNY students and workers did not let the attacks stand.

Today I published a piece on why it's important to keep following Trump's foreign policy in Latin America and the Caribbean.

An actual full time labor reporter job in the wild-- this is a great job if you're in the Northwest, very legit publication.

My latest article covers why, even as war spirals in the Middle East, Latin America remains a key region for understanding Trump’s foreign policy and the resistance it’s fueling:

Did you know?
*The U.S. Navy is operating in Panama’s waters for the first time in 50 years.
*U.S. and Ecuador forces bombed a dairy farm and villages in the Amazon.
*Massive protests against U.S. intervention and the Far Right have occurred in Peru, Panama, Bolivia, and Argentina, to name a few.
image of a white brick wall overlaid with text reading: for a story at The Guardian, I'm looking to speak to 1-2 people who have had their community/ political organizing work impacted by being expected or forced to organize with someone who assaulted or harassed them, and that staying silent was "for the good of the movement" I know this is an extremely common story, but also one people can't always share with their name or face: anonymity or pseudonyms will be provided. I am trained in trauma-informed strategies in working with survivors, am a survivor myself, and take digital hygiene and sources' security extremely seriously. Please reach out over signal @ lex_mcmenamin.68 . I'll take this down when I have enough folks. Thank you.

for a story at the Guardian, I'm interviewing folks who were asked to keep working with someone after sexual assault or harassment or relationship abuse, and told to stay silent "for the good of the movement" (more info in pic with alt text).

A great and much-needed report! The U.S. military build-up in Ecuador (and I'd add Panama) aren't getting nearly the attention they deserve.
A Iran, a little Japan, and a little Taiwan with Peter Kuznick of American University and columnist with Al Jazeera!
Mostly, this show is about Trump and Iran.
Thanks to Youri Smouter for joining!

I'm a journalist and lifelong resident of the town this piece is about. I'm also an anti-Zionist Jew. There's good stuff in this article, but it leaves out so much of the harassment, doxxing, and threats of violence that SOMA's pro-Palestine community has faced.
