Liz can do no wrong - I really enjoy her writing.
Is it a literary masterpiece? No.
But it's fun and it hits the spot.
Love the representation in this one.

Unfortunately, this one didn't hit as hard as I wanted it to. Great premise, and the characters had a lot of potential, but I felt detached from it all. Too passive?
Did raise some excellent questions about the future, though.

A great novella. I'm glad it was seperated from the second book as it worked well by itself.
Excited for the next one and for the stories to converge again.

Gobbled this sequel up. Loved the addition of Saga's point of view.
Great character growth so far.

Reading Wrap Up for March!
The Ashen Series is saving me from my reading slump.
Storygraph still keeps shouting at me that I'm 9 books behind schedule. Gotta lock in.

The plot twists were just piled up on top of each other towards the end and they kept getting more ridiculous with every page.
It wasn't quite a 3 star read but I'm feeling generous and I was interested to know what happens.

Took me a while to get into but then couldn't put it down. Spent multiple nights staying up longer than I should've.
A really solid start to the series.

πThe New Age of Sexism

Informative and rage-inducing.
The book indicates that we seem to be going backwards as a society, despite new "exciting" technologies. As a woman - same old shit, different day, eh?

A true enemies to lovers. Had a pretty good time with this one.
Didn't need to be as long as it was and found it a bit cheesy at times, but overall a decent story with interesting characters.

πBefore I Forget
βοΈTory Henwood Hoen
β4/5
A lovely, bittersweet novel. It handled some pretty heavy topics really well imo.
Loved all the characters and the little sprinkling of magical realism.
I feel like it had some loose ends that need tying but not sure if there will be a 2nd book.

πThe Tainted Cup
βοΈRobert Jackson Bennett

An interesting, albeit confusing, world and magic system. Hooked me to start with.
I liked the main character, Din, but didn't care for Ana. Her knowing everything and monologuong about it got a bit tedious.

I don't hate every book I read, I promise π just not a great start to the year

Lots of potential, bad execution.
Loved the magic system but the author was simply trying to do too much at once. She just threw every trope at it and hoped they'd stick.
Also felt like I was being *told* rather than *shown* a lot.

The pacing was off and the characters lacked depth. Felt very juvenile
Reading wrap-up for February!
Don't remember the last time I had a reading slump this big. π«

πThe Message
βοΈTa-Nehisi Coates
A very reflective, thought-provoking book. It does cover some heavy, devisive topics, so won't be for everyone.
I do usually love books being read by the author but will say I couldn't get on with Coates' cadence when listening on audio.
Might just be me.

Interesting concept, poor execution.
Again, I seem to be in the minority with this - I just don't understand the high ratings. What am I missing? π€·
Too many plotholes and plot twists. Not enough world building and character development.

They did my girl, Medusa, so dirty. Naive and truly insufferable.
The pacing was off and the writing itself felt lazy and read very juvenile, despite the heavy topics.

Love learning about people's life experiences, especially those with a complete different background to me.
This did get a little long and repetetive, but I appreciated learning more about Jamaica and Rastafari (at least from Safiya's perspective)

I can already see this getting a screen adaptation!

Apparently I've read it in 2023 according to goodreads but I don't remember what it was about. The synopsis didn't jog my memory either.

The Dungeon Crawler Carl series is the most fun I've had reading something in a while. If you read anything from the list, read that!
Atmosphere wasn't a 5β read for me, but the story has stuck with me.
My top 12 books of 2025!
- Words Of Radiance
- Dungeon Crawler Carl (whole series)
- Promise Me Sunshine
- The Wedding People
- Rose in Chains
- My Friends
- The Correspondent
- The Shattered King
- Deep End
- Not Quite Dead Yet
- The Names
- Atmosphere
