FFS the ABC needs to do better than this bullshit fear mongering.

Listen to Michael. Save the AYCC: www.aycc.org.au/emergencyapp...
I should do a thread of prominent Australian climate advocates and the roles that they had at AYCC during their formative years.
Honestly the idea of doing it kind of exhausts me, because it would be so, so, so bloody long.

Hi everyone -
Do you have to use your car because there is no public transport in your area? Do you have to do mutual obligations right now? Would you feel comfortable chatting for a story? Please message me here or email: cait.kelly@theguardian.com
Charts showing Shell's Queensland operations earned $32.292bn 2014-15 to 2022-23 and paid $0 company tax
Shell Oil now up. Telling us they are "nation building"

If you're being forced to burn through fuel to meet mutual obligations, the guardian would like to chat 👇
per capital solar
per capita coal
Australia has the highest per capita solar generation in the world 🍾
Australia also has the highest per capita coal generation the world 😱

Good. 👏

Labor under internal pressure on gas tax as influencer says government ‘stopped working for the punters’
people who say this act like if they weren't at the airport they'd be at home curing cancer. what exactly are your big plans for your extra 45 minutes at home you fuckin loser
"People regularly die for the fantasy that, whenever we want, we might burn along the highway of life, at speed, with the sunglasses on, windows down and our elbow up, while we chain-smoke cigarettes and play Free Bird at volume over the stereo."
I wrote about EVs and why bad reporting is an issue.
Chart showing 2014-15: Exports $16.9bn 2024-25: Exports $64.6bn 2014-15: PRRT $1.9bn 2024-25: PRRT $1.4bn
The gas industry has chosen to focus on exports, the PRRT was set up to tax oil in the Bass Strait. It ain't working
That's why we need a 25% tax on gas exports
Tim Cook donated $1M to Trump’s inauguration.
He fawned over Trump and gifted him a 24-karat gold plaque (as Apple lobbied for tariff exemptions).
Apple donated to Trump’s White House ballroom.
And it removed ICE tracking apps from its stores following a demand from the DOJ.
Remember this.
Headline from the AFR "Time to end welfare for the wealthy, says big business"
You mean the superannuation tax breaks? No?
You mean the CGT discount? No?
You mean the fossil fuel subsidies? No?
You mean the free gas for multinationals? No?
You mean the failure of the PRRT? No?
You mean the tax dodging trusts? No?
You mean the lack of a wealth tax? No?
No you mean the NDIS FFS
Forget "total cost of ownership." In the UK, the average EV is now cheaper than the average ICE vehicle, up front. Sticker cost.
And of course the savings just keep accumulating after that.
I’m baffled by the ABC’s approach to reporting on EV ownership. People might have actually learned something from some factual reporting, relevant statistics and informed opinion. Instead, this article mostly focuses on the self declared ignorance of the author alongside a handful of random facts.
When getting my 1st EV I did the research, downloaded the apps and registered them, then when I got my car I went around the public chargers and familiarised myself with the quirks. This dip shit didn't bother to do any of that and subsequently ended up writing a frustrating load of horse shit💩
This is a joke, right? I spent a good year doing EV stories with The Guardian. Nine in ten cars in Norway are EVs. It's 2026 and we're being treated to stories that read like it's 2019 in a fossil fuel crisis. There is no mention of climate change. The reporter is impatient. That's all we get.
Today marks 35 years since the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody made 339 recommendations to address systemic racism and over-incarceration of First Nations people.
Since then, more than 630 First Nations people have died in custody, including 12 so far in 2026.
This is an opportunity for bold generational reform, not tinkering around the edges.
Momentum is growing for significant tax reform in the May budget.
Dozens of groups are today calling for a tax on gas exports of at least 25% - a move that would raise $17 billion each year.
Authorities are investigating how a 12-year-old became trapped in a bus door before being dragged hundreds of metres down a suburban street in Melbourne.
Sign at Westgarth station showing the next train in 42 minutes
Govt just announced more train services coming soon, fixing many of the 30-40 minute waits around the Metro network, as well as more services on the Shepparton line. There's more to do, but this is a great step in the right direction. More trains more often gets more people onto public transport 👍
The fuel crisis could last for a while. It’s time for a new approach to fossil fuel use – end it
Let's base our energy systems on renewables, and stop burning stuff

I'm not joking when I say mRNA technology is more important than "AI" and it's a tragedy we're throwing billions into one while our government is aggressively defunding the other.
Free PT until end of May, then half price until the end of 2026.
The government must invest in more services, to help the system cope with demand, and to ensure people most affected by high petrol prices in Melbourne's outer suburbs and regional Victoria have a public transport option they can use.
