Love your writing, Mike. Is there AI regulation that you would support? I agree with your assessment that giving fascists tools to be more authoritarian is a bad idea, but I also worry that allowing AI (and its strongest backers) to continue unfettered could be nearly as problematic.

Once this became a more reliable place to discuss current events, the refuge was gone, and this place became more like Twitter(not the current version, but circa 2016-2018). For better or for worse (mostly worse), politics is dominant in online discourse.
Love seeing your posts on here (even if I fundamentally disagree about the benefits of AI) because they provide an important perspective for an average person.
It is so difficult to have meaningful conversations when the horrors of the world are so strong. When this place started, it was a refuge.
I would bet you already have listened, but Molly Conger’s excellent podcast “Weird Little Guys” did an extended series on this topic as a cause célèbre for international right wingers, many of whom ended up or originated from the US.

So few of them actually care, and even fewer want to turn off the fundraising spigot / lobbyist money so they can’t do anything notable.
This is an even bigger reason why we are screwed.
