The shrinking #CaspianSea is a climate justice issue. Communities that rely on fishing, clean water, and stable ecosystems are paying the price for fossil fuel extraction/methane pollution.
At the #AstanaSummit, governments must prioritize people, not profits.

At a time when the #ClimateCrisis demands stronger accountability, #China ’s new Ecological Code moves in the opposite direction restricting public interest litigation, limiting civil society & shielding govt actions from legal challenge.

Chávez was involved in community efforts to defend natural resources in the face of illegal deforestation, water theft and the presence of organized crime groups. This killing follows a series of violent incidents in Madero against territorial defenders & their families. (2/3)

The Government of #Indonesia must hold the perpetrators and authors of this horrific crime accountable, end its public attacks against human rights and environmental defenders, and halt efforts to adopt legislation that would restrict or criminalize the peaceful activities of independent NGOs.
#Indonesian environmental defender Muhammad Rosidi was attacked with acid in February by unidentified individuals. He believes the attack was linked to his activism against illegal #mining in Bangka Island:

The Indonesia-US trade deal risks weakening Indonesia’s climate commitments under the Paris Agreement. Agreeing to import $15 billion in fossil fuels from the US may continue to prop up fossil fuel usage in Indonesia at a time where comm's are already experiencing serious climate impacts.

The attack on Andrie Yunus comes after many new and proposed policies that increase militarization and undermine civic space in #Indonesia. The case should be open to the public to ensure an independent, impartial, transparent, and thorough investigation into the attack.
On March 12, Indonesian #HumanRights activist Andrie Yunus was attacked with acid. Andrie reportedly suffered severe burns on his face, hands, chest, and eyes. A week later, amid civil society pressure & protests Indonesian military authorities arrested 4 officers allegedly involved in the attack.
Allowing the federal government to override state law so an oil company can restart the pipelines would set a dangerous precedent. The Trump administration has long sought to expand offshore oil leasing along the West Coast, which has drawn fierce opposition in #California.
“Trump is misusing this Cold War-era law just to help a Texas oil company skirt vital state laws that protect our coastline, and Californians will pay the price.”
“This is a revolting power grab by an extremist president,” said Talia Nimmer, an attorney at the Center for Biological Diversity.
Forcing the pipelines to restart would not lower #GasPrices but would expose coastal wildlife to the risk of another #OilSpill.
