Could ‘A River Runs Through It’ Have Been a Hit Today?

Great story by Monte Burke in the New York Times Book Review (and edited by John Maher) to mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of "A River Runs Through It," one of the legendary feats of university press publishing @uchicagopress.bsky.social 👏👏 www.nytimes.com/2026/04/20/b...

Great meeting with Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey to explore new ground together.

Spain is doubling down on its partnership with the US — and Massachusetts in particular — to deliver for our communities in uncertain times.

"...I wanted this list to capture something else — something deliberately accessible. Something glossy. Something you’d hear leaking from a car window at night. Something catchy enough to carry a body."

Reviewers! Any of y'all wanna review my novella FES IS A MIRROR? It has no serious reviews. Sad face. Tiny press life. I long for it to have some reach. Hit me up if you write reviews of fiction (with practice doing so) & want to write & publish one!

Translation is a form of creation. The translator has to make decisions about preserving style over direct content, about cultural equivalence, about how to preserve a sense of pun or sentence structure from one language to the next. People who assume an LLM can do it are not understanding the task.

Spain Says the Sun Shields It From Rising Gas Costs. Is That True?

Stunningly bullshit framing on this NYT story that insists that somehow renewables are a dicy unpredictable thing and downplays that they're far, far cheaper most of the time by focusing on how they're not always. As is often the case with the NYT, comments smarter than article.

The state of book publicity now My Q&A with Carrie Olivia Adams

"The Wall Street Journal’s book review section has become an oasis for the kind of smart, general interest nonfiction that is the bread and butter of what we at university presses are publishing." Nice mention from U of Chicago Press's Carrie Olivia Adams: derekkrissoff.substack.com/p/the-state-...
