Usually I don’t think you can say you’ve been to a state if you’ve only driven through, but New Jersey gets an exception if you’ve visited multiple named rest stops. They culturally embody the state enough to count

Amazing how a Marvel movie marathon has gone from sounding like a nice way to kill some time with friends to literally sounding like torture

Y’know, fuck it, let’s do the Pennsylvania cinematic universe. Give us Yuengling: The Movie and a Wawa origin story. Do a big-budget miniseries about water ice or a very long maxi-series where every season is a different SEPTA strike

I really hate that reasonable positions like this and “AI development is a natural progression in how we talk to computers just like programming languages were after the punch card days” get you lumped in with the AI bros who post Seedance clips of Tom Cruise as Vegeta and say Hollywood is doomed

‘I felt betrayed, naked’: did a prize-winning novelist steal a woman’s life story? The long read: His novel was praised for giving a voice to the victims of Algeria’s brutal civil war. But one woman has accused Kamel Daoud of having stolen her story – and the ensuing legal battle ha...

If you’ve been involved in the music industry over the last 5-10 years, this is pretty much dog bites man, but I can see how it’s a little bit shocking to people who don’t know how this stuff works

Seeing WLWs lament that Christina Koch is straight so just wanna say I’m a single lesbian who could probably pass as her cousin. I’m not an astronaut (in fact I routinely vomit on commercial flights) but I play sax and have a rent-stabilized apartment with a toilet that works nearly 80% of the time

Might be a cheap answer because John Adams is one of my favorite composers and Luca Guadagnino just took some of his pre-existing work for the score but the music in I Am Love is so powerful and hypnotic that it just IS the movie

I think only Raimi’s Spider-Man 2 gets at the real truth of the character (he has erectile dysfunction)

I’ll admit to some unfortunate lingering symptoms of the Whedon mind virus (undying fondness for Buffy) but I can’t imagine anyone demanding new Firefly stuff in the big year 2026 other than the most cringey elder millennials alive

Real. And I’m tired of well-meaning friends trying to correct me by saying “no, you like graphic novels.” That’s just a word invented by cowards who won’t admit that they’re adults talking about comic books

I'm already sick of "It's all a distraction from Epstein" replies. This regime is killing innocent people because our leaders are all power-hungry tyrants and war profiteers. When you say it's "just a distraction" you minimize the gravity of what's happening and the lives lost.

Ds and Rs are both responsible for rural hospital closures. Private equity is driving healthcare to ruin just like every other industry with no meaningful action from either party

Medicaid expansion would’ve made hospitals a slightly less appealing asset but it wouldn’t have fixed the problem

I feel like people saying 100% yes to this are either distance runners or so unfit that they don’t realize how hard it is to run 10 miles. I could probably do it in one go if I alternated between walking and running but I’ve got 3 nonstop running miles in me at best and I’m in pretty good shape

It really is fascinating how overt it now is that there are certain - really not controversial - ideas that you aren’t allowed to say on television.

Music production already has an extremely low barrier to entry. There’s a TON of free music production software out there and most include lots of free loops/plug-ins you can just stack together to make something, no skill required. The only things you need are a pair of ears and a little creativity

It really is such a bummer that we lost Cheryl Hines to the fascists. Her podcast with Tig Notaro was one of the few comedy podcasts that’s really worked for me (though it did lose every drop of its juice when Tig left)
