The research backs up what communities have always known. People save more together than alone. Members are up to 85% more likely to have emergency savings. In parts of West Africa, participation reaches 95% of adults.
Your culture might have its own name for this practice. Susus in West Africa, Tandas in Mexico, Chit funds in India and Hui in China. Many variations and local implementations, same focus on community.
A group of people pool a fixed amount regularly, taking it in turns to receive the full pot. This allows people access to lump sums without reliance on banks or interest. Trust and community are at the core.
