Since I started reporting on education, I've puzzled over why the official version of how things work at the TDSB is often at odds with the experiences I hear from families. Nowhere is this gap more apparent than in special education. This story is an attempt to get at why.
Ontario's future starts in our #OntEd schools – not a luxury spa.
It's past time for Premier Doug Ford to get his priorities straight.
Turns out that I know almost every single word to 'Piano Man' even though I probably haven't heard it in decades.
Brains are weird.
Once again Ford is failing our kids by underfunding our schools. See my full statement on today's education funding announcement.

"Canada’s most vulnerable would scarcely see any benefit at all from the proposals, [said @davidmaccdn.bsky.social].
Canadians living below the poverty line would only receive $11 under the Liberal plan and $25 from the Conservatives..." @policyalternatives.ca www.thestar.com/politics/fed...

Canadian psephology folks:

A clear-eyed look at how the legislative chaos has ultimately resulted in few shovels in the ground. There's a simple way for Queen's Park to get more housing built - fund not-for-profit housing builders. They're actually building. This is not hard math. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...
Tesla earned $2.3 billion in the United States in 2024.
You'd think it paid a lot in taxes, right?
Well it paid precisely $0 in federal income taxes last year.
You want waste and fraud? Look at what some big corporations and the rich are getting away with.
Doug Ford says one thing when he’s in front of the cameras, and another when he’s behind closed doors.
That’s who he has always been.

Dougie decided he can't win on June 4, 2026. FINE! I'll cross the date off my calendar. But my friends, colleagues and I are going to work our butts off to make sure he doesn't win on Thursday, February 27 either. Mandate smandate.
Pleased to hear Canadian Supreme Court will hear case challenging Quebec's racist Bill 21. I added this button & tulle to local elementary school's fence when a teacher was removed from her job because she wore a hijab. Secular govt is good but employees must be allowed to identify with their faith.
Great segment on Ottawa Morning. CBC Radio. Women at work. Importance of unions. @ottawalabour.bsky.social @oflabour.bsky.social
The Finance Committee heard loud and clear yesterday that our health care system is under pressure on all fronts. Will the Ford government listen and make sure that doctors and hospital care are available when you need them?

I am devastated to find out that a man was found frozen to death yesterday morning on Elgin Street. This is the exact scenario that the city has been working hard to prevent, but this failure is on all of us.
20 years ago, I had a poster on my office door - head shots of the top paid Canadian CEOs. I'm not surprised that the pay gap has gotten so much worse. I was disappointed to see there was no progress in terms of gender. Curious about other equity seeking groups. (Will peek at full report).
