Maki Roll Dog request I've done recently, I don't normally work with abstract character designs (like literal sauce on the legs) so this was a fun exercise!

photo of painting in wood frame on blue wall on display at museum

“Throughout his life, Jamie Wyeth has been surrounded by animals of all sorts, and many have served as subjects in his work. Wyeth’s particular fascination with pigs has led him to numerous compositions of these animals, such as Portrait of Pig.

Wyeth’s process of creating any painting begins with close observation and understanding of his subject, in this case, an enormous pig named Den Den. The artist first saw Den Den at a neighbor’s farm, where he worked to create this portrait of her. Wyeth made extensive pencil sketches and studies of the pig using calipers for accurate measurement of Den Den’s anatomy. He used his studies in preparation for his final, life-size portrait. Portrait of Pig describes the animal in thickly applied layers of varying colors. The textural brushstrokes heighten the arresting form of the massive pig and her surrounding straw-strewn pen. Intrigued by her character, he eventually purchased the pig for his own farm.

Curatorial Remarks
James Wyeth works closely with his portrait subjects, whether human or animal. The pig, Den Den, belonged to a neighboring farmer. To occupy her during long hours of posing, Wyeth fed her sweet feed (molasses) and played classical music. Wyeth's thickly applied oil paint reveals Den Den both as a personality and an interesting shape with texture. Life-size scale adds to the impact of this portrait.”

screen shot of interview quote:
DEN-DEN
Also in the exhibition is his pet pig Den-Den who was rescued by Wyeth from the butcher's block and became his model for Portrait of Pig, oil on canvas, painted in 1996, "Den-Den originally belonged to a farmer who I helped when his cattle broke out. Later, when I was painting in the barn I heard this snorting, it was Den-Den; she had eaten 22 tubes of my paint.
She had all these rainbow droppings and the farmer decided to take her to the butcher and I said, 'No, I can't have that. I'll take her.' By consuming and surviving 22 tubes of my paint she had endeared herself to me. So I took her to our farm at Point Lookout where she lived a long and happy life."

It’s a common misconception that ADHD is just an inability to focus. Really, it’s a struggle to control focus.

I can hyperfixate for hours on complex but pointless tasks and freeze on simple tasks.

Some days, my brain’s a Lamborghini with no brakes. Other days, a rusty bike with a stuck chain.

Cool design! The character has excellent storytelling, and the art style reminds me both of BotW and One Piece. I love this!
