“The main areas of serotonin research provide no consistent evidence of there being an association between serotonin and depression, and no support for the hypothesis that depression is caused by lowered serotonin activity or concentrations”.

“Although our chatbot “Sam” was designed to offer consistent support rooted in principles from relationship science, interacting with this chatbot did not yield the same psychological benefits as interacting with a randomly selected first-year university student”.

New RCT: dose reduction raised relapse risk in year 1, but improved functioning by year 3.

“This transition disrupts Zionist pinkwashing narratives by positioning the family not as an irredeemable site of repression, but as a resilient foundation for queer survival and indigenous belonging”.
Depersonalisation-Derealisation Disorder affects around 2% of people yet there is limited guidance on treatments specifically for the condition.

Skin-picking as self-soothing: is emotion regulation the missing piece? 🩹
Adults with skin picking (excoriation) disorder show higher emotion dysregulation 📊, lower distress tolerance 😔, and trouble naming their feelings.

«A mechanism-testing experiment in the UK and Western Europe (N = 943) showed that compassion drives willingness to help, but in this broader sample LGBT+ clients elicited less compassion, reducing help particularly for transgender clients».

Physical activity (PA) “should be considered a core component of psychiatric care”. PA and reducing prolonged sedentary behaviour “ … can improve symptoms, enhance physical and cognitive health, and help narrow the life expectancy gap experienced by people with SMI.”
🧡 Small service evaluation: 12 participants attended compassion-focused therapy groups in two CMHTs.
Some showed improvements in self-compassion and depression, but this was a service evaluation without comparison group, not evidence of effectiveness.

“The homeostatic property clusters view accounts for many robust phenomena in mental health science, turning classification challenges from isolated anomalies into natural consequences of superimposing structure on the landscape of mental health problems”.
💔 Boys and men take 15-20 years on average to disclose sexual trauma.
New review found masculine norms, shame & fear of disbelief create unique barriers.
Disclosure less likely when perpetrator was someone close.
Gender-sensitive support needed.

Yesterday the NHS banned all under 18 prescriptions of HRT for trans young people.
This ban was justified by 10 new studies that largely stated NO EVIDENCE for under 18s HRT exists.
The study underpinning this played one particular trick.
Let's briefly look at how the NHS rigged the game 1/5
In a competitive field where it is hard to stand out, to truly shine for national transphobia, the UK and NHS are absolutely knocking it out of the park. They looked and looked and only found 1 study on puberty blockers + oestrogen
Others try and transphobe but we are world class transphobes
Leading psychiatrists are 'alarmed' that gender clinics refused to uphold really basic responsibilities of data stewardship, privacy and informed consent for research.
Trans communities do not hate research. We hate bad faith research designed to harm communities. 1/3
First I've seen it confirmed. Both Steensma and Kaltiala, two figures prominent in bad science re trans kids, advised the Cass Review's York Studies.

“The paper concludes that universal claims about CBT are … are better understood as population-specific evidence claims grounded in co-designed trials, culturally valid measurement, and implementation research demonstrating safety, relevance, and benefit for diverse communities.”
🔴 People using mental health services experience sexual violence at substantially higher rates than the general population.
Review suggests that 13% of women, 3% of men (using MH services) experienced sexual violence in the last year.
Yet clinicians don't routinely screen.

"The technology was revealed in December to produce a far higher rate of false positives for black (5.5%) and Asian (4.0%) faces than for white faces (0.04 %) at certain settings, according to Home Office commissioned research."
So glad we have massively restructured transgender care on based on the works of someone who believes absolute nonsense.
In a pretty grim decision - with one very considerable silver lining - the High Court has dismissed our challenge to the EHRC Interim guidance.
A number of resources follow in a 🧵.

Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Trust @cntw.bsky.social have you installed Oxevision on the mother and baby unit? The new ward leaflet has added information about Oxevision as well as body worn cameras. This is unspeakably unethical.

Personality disorders affect 5% of the population, similar to anxiety, but don't appear in global burden of disease data. Why? 📊
Review of 60 studies, 28 countries. Higher mortality risk, especially for inpatients. Yet invisible in public health planning.
